linden method 3 Mar 2010
By Jo39
Format:Paperback
Like many people I searched the web to see if I could buy the linden method cheaper than the £117 on the official website, found that it was just £105 on amazon. I first purchased lindens "stress free in 30 days" as a taster which was a good read and only cost around £15. I then decided to get the linden method and am working through it now. Basically alot of what he talks about is in the cheaper version so my advice is buy the cheaper one, see if it helps, if not splash out on the more expensive. Just so you know, the linden method is all about diverting your mind off the anxious feelings by doing other things (easier said than done when find it difficult to go out alone or even with someone). My symptoms started 12 months ago, I am now just in last few weeks starting to imagine having my life back after struggling just to get through most days through feeling so awful and worrying that something was terribly wrong with me, the only thing I can say is that lorazepam, yoga, massage, counseling didnt work, but since reading Lindens material I feel better, despite the fact that my symptoms are still there, I just feel less unwell with them. judge for yourself.

I love the idea for the book and reading the success story gives you a lot of hope. I just think that the author is obsessed with his own past and experiences. There are some good ideas here but I don't think they work for everybody as he says they will. A lot of the book concentrates on withdrawing from diazepam, which is fair enough but most people are on other drugs for anxiety these days.
I haven't tried all the methods so I can't say if they work although I know some of them do. I don't like how he tells us that the main thing we need to do is distract ourselves when we feel anxiety for example breathing from a paper bag. Many people will say that this is just creating another avoidance, which adds to anxiety. I could see myself becoming reliant on using paper bags for example.
I'm also a little confused by the conflicting messages. One of the 'Nine pillars' to overcome anxiety is to stop seeing a doctor or psychologist etc but in the withdrawing section it says we must withdraw under medical supervision. Many people trying to recover from anxiety will be withdrawing from some kind of medication so this makes very little sense.
Well done to the author for conquering his own problems but I don't believe everything in this book will cure everybody's anxiety.
There are much better sources out there. The 'Anxiety toolbox' for example includes a lot that is in the Linden method but is more up to date. I still believe that you must want to help yourself though. No book will save you without self belief.

Absolutely brilliant 24 Dec 2008

I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks all my life, not all the time, but usually a few episodes per year triggered by stressful events.

With the Linden Method, I have cured my anxiety within two days of receiving the pack and am confident it will not return.

The pattern was always: "trigger event" - panic - anxiety - worry about anxiety. I always got stuck in the "worry about anxiety" focusing on the unpleasant symptoms of which I suffered dozens, inability to concentrate, think of anything over than anxiety, lack of appetite, insomnia amongst others! I also suffered panic attacks associated with public speaking / interviews and managed to beat this with the help of Paul McKenna's Instant confidence, and Vera Pfeiffer's Positive Thinking. I can now hold presentations and do interviews without having to worry about panic attacks.

The worry about anxiety symptoms always surpassed the initial "trigger" event and usually wore off about a week and I was back to "normal". However unpleasant, I just thought this was my lot, and I would just have to endure it as and when.

Recently though the anxiety attacks have got worse and were starting to be more often, triggered by more and more "events" and so I decided to seek help after my experiences with panic attacks. I had seen the Linden Method before and was very sceptical - solutions that sounded too good to be true usually were. But midway through a recent anxiety epipsode I finally took the plunge and ordered the Linden Method thanks to positive testimonials on Amazon. I hadn't slept for three nights, was so anxious I couldn't eat or focus on anything, I was at my wits end and starting to feel really ill. I downloaded the Linden materials from the website whilst my pack was mailed, and literally within 2 days, my anxiety has gone completely. I had tried similar methods previously as basically they are the same as in Paul McKenna's book but the extra tools and information in the Linden method is much more comprehensive and the extra tools provided really made the difference, especially the visualisation CD's which relaxed me and got me into a state where the Linden Method was 100% effective with a bit of effort.

To beat anxiety disorder, you have to understand anxiety - the triggers and symptoms are actually irrelevant. The Linden Method taught me that my anxiety response was basically the same as my Panic response and I had "taught" myself that this was normal. By relaxation and thought diversion / replacement you can stop anxiety happening by reprogramming your brain. By focusing on anxiety and worrying about it you are actually teaching yourself that it is normal, and effectively feeding the anxiety. The moment you stop, it goes away. It does take effort - in fact a lot of effort, but quickly works once the effort is applied.

What also helps is the Linden Method is not full of jargon or medical terms, it is written in a very understandable way, and I have to say I "got it" straight away - maybe because I am already familiar with "mind programming" techniques, but don't let this put you off.

Somebody told me you can not beat anxiety if you are worried it will happen again and I always was. The Linden Method has given me the confidence to not worry about anxiety anymore therefore I can just get on with my life.
