All Maeve Binchey's books make riveting reading, and this one is no exception. My best friend has not yet read any of her work, so I have given her this book to whet her appetite for the rest. 'The Lilac Bus' will make you laugh and cry, as usual with Miss Binchey, and you will be very sorry when you have come to the end - again, as usual with Miss B. Try 'Evening Class' next, another gem.

Lovely 19 Feb 2007
Format:Paperback
I loved this book! I did think it was a tad short, but then I do like to know what happens next and next and next!

Your heart will definately go out to some of the characters as you discover why they are the way they are and how some of them have kept their secrets for years!

Certainly recomended as an introduction to Maeve Binchy, once you have read one, your hooked on them all!

Great nostalgia! 26 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
It's ages since I read this and I must have lost my original copy but recently I picked it up again in a second hand shop and read it again cover to cover. It's amusing, sweet, funny and a good glimpse into rural village life in Ireland where eveybody knows everybody's business and there are secrets lurking behind every front door. The book is more short stories rather than one main story but all the characters are somehow linked by the fact that they all get the same lilac bus home every Friday from Dublin and return again on a Sunday. I'm holding onto this copy now as I don't want to lose it again. If you're a Binchy fan and you haven't yet read The Lilac Bus, you MUST read it!
