DVD Description

This box set contains all of David Attenborough's 'Life' series - among the greatest and most beautiful nature documentaries even made.

Life on Earth offers a chronological account of the flora and fauna of planet Earth over a period of 3,500 million years.

The Living Planet: An ambitious 12-part documentary that spanned the globe with portraits of each of the major geographical regions that offer a home to life.

Trials of Life: Originally broadcast in 1990, it examines animal behaviour in all its infinite variety and in doing so we are allowed to witness some ofthe most enchanting animal personalities, as will as some of the most fearsome.

Life in the Freezer reveals incomparable standards of natural history filming to trace Antartica's seasonal cycle from the long winter months when the formation of ice almost doubles its surface area, to the brief summer when the race to breed really heats up.

The Private Life of Plants: Attenborough takes us through each aspect of plants' lives travelling, growing, flowering, their struggle with other plants and animals, and the ingenious way they adapt to even the harshest of conditions.

The Life of Birds presents a fascinating and exciting view of the world of birds, the largest animal group on earth, in a series of ten fifty-minute episodes.

The Life of Mammals looks at why mammals are the most successful creatures on the planet.

Life in the Undergrowth: Here David shows us not just bugs, beetles and creepy-crawlies, but scorpions and centipedes, mites and mantids, spiders and dragonflies.

Quite simply, a stunning collection of some of the finest nature documentaries ever produced. Breathtaking footage, combined with Sir David's contagious enthusiasm for the natural world make for wonderful viewing indeed. Superlatives can't describe it well enough; you owe it to yourself to give it a look!

All you need add to your collection is The Blue Planet, the upcoming DVD release of Planet Earth, Life in Cold Blood (due in 2008), and a few other miscellaneous Attenborough works, and you will have a collection to be very proud of and treasure.

Whilst it is impossible to do the series justice in this way, here's a brief rundown of what you get:

Life in the Undergrowth - Focuses on the tiny creatures that are very close to us at all times, yet are often overlooked - insects.

The Private Life of Plants - Explores the wonders of the plant world.

The Living Planet - In this author's humble opinion, possibly the very best work in The Life Collection. The Living Planet goes into great detail about the many different environments on Earth and the life that can be found within. Hot and cold. From the lush rainforests to the most barren deserts. Magnificent.

Life on Earth - A broad view of life on Earth, from it's beginnings to the present.

The Life of Birds - As the name implies, it's an exploration of the world of Birds.

Trials of Life - A rather different focus than the other series; Trials of Life focuses on the various stages of life, from Birth to Death.

Life in the Freezer - A wonderful set of documentaries focusing on life in the coldest and most isolated parts of the world - namely the Poles.

The Life of Mammals - Explores the very varied world of mammals.

I'll keep it brief- If you are interested in the subject matter, you will be absolutely rivetted. If not, you will find yourself captivated anyway ! David Attenborough presents a wonderful outlook on life throughout the series, harsh sometimes, but nevertheless true. If you cannot afford to take your kids to these exotic places to learn about animals in all their forms, FOR ONCE, SIT THEM IN FRONT OF THE T.V.! This is money invested for your ankle-biters. I own all the series in separate forms, and my [...]loves the sea ones best! Look at the separate series if your'e not sure, but you wont regret it. Top Viewing and better than "reality tv" any day of the week. pete, The uk.

This is one of the best dvd set I've bought so far... It includes most of the documentaries of one of the greatest English broadcaster. The image quality is quite good, considering that some of the material is nearly 30 years old. A suggestion for potential Italian buyers: the series is subtitled and Sir Attenborough speaks with a perfect classical British pronunciation that everyone can easily understand, even if he/she is non native English speaking.

I was worried about the quality of the images because of everyone's comments. I didn't even notice it.
