Product Description

"They're coming, fleeing the darkness that has devoured their homeworld. If the Librarian was still here, we might have had a chance. Now that he's gone, all that's left is for us to die with honor."

Kidnapped and taken to a huge, world-spanning library, Claire Mathis is shocked to discover the truth about her own life. Thrust into the heart of a battle for the library's fate, she quickly learns that the powerful Forbidders will stop at nothing in order to gain the one object they prize above all others.

While the Forbidders wreak havoc, however, a great danger is edging closer. The darkness is reaching out across the void, threatening to destroy this world just as it has already destroyed countless others. As he tries to save the library, a tired soldier named Vanguard finally sees the truth and realizes that there's only one way for the library to be rescued from destruction.

Originally published in serial form, The Library is now available in this collected edition. Total word count is approximately 120,000, which is roughly 350 pages of a printed book. Also includes a short preview of the next book in the series, Journey to the Library.

Please note: this book contains violence and mild swearing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Certainly different 1 Feb 2014

I found the story quite an interesting concept - more or less the entire book is set in surprisingly, a library, the library does occupy an extremely large area, sort of country size, but, hey it was different. The story is told in the form of a first person narrative, alternatively by the 2 main characters, in succession.

My only grumble was the ending - it really fizzled out and then an epilogue was given which was just so un-needed.

There are books out there with more body and character development and more convincing endings, but it is more original than a lot of books out there

2.0 out of 5 stars Rough draft published! 13 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having read the summary of this story I thought it was a wonderful idea, and credit to Amy Cross to coming up with such an alternative landscape.

Initially characters were well fleshed-out, and I was completely absorbed by the setting. However, as I got to about quarter of the way through the book typos started to appear, at first infrequently, but then pretty much every couple of pages. Then after the first half of the story a character's name changed (obviously the author had though better of the name, but not used the facility to change that one word through out the whole document.

The story trailed off part way through the book, and very much felt like a first draft. I'm convinced that if Amy did some sturdy re-writes this could be an excellent story, but I believe that she has rushed to get it published, and due to Amazon's auto-edit for Kindle (where a human being is not involved in the editing process) a unfinished document has reached publication.

It was nice to read about the library, I like the fact that Amy brings in placed from her earlier books and explains what they are fully. I would like to see the darkness defeated!
