I was a reader of the Legion back in the days of Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen (both together and separately). Their Legion was still the `original' Legion, but grown up both I terms of story and character (and age), and when that Legion closed with the first Crisis, Keith Giffen gave us an `adult' Legion, which in turn fell victim to Zero Hour (Crisis 1.5). Since then, there have been numerous versions of the Legion, until in the last DC shake-up, we got them all - see Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds. However, here in what was the most recent Legion relaunch (until the latest one - but I don't know if that is affecting anything or is just a renumbering of the comic), we appear to have the Levitz & Giffen Legion back again, though with knowledge of events since they were last seen - there are references to the events of Legion of Three Worlds, and the story is a direct sequel to Superman and the Legion of Superheroes. However, we have ALL the characters I remember from the glory days, as well as Paul Levitz writing them. Even some of the dead ones get a look in... The storyline is as convoluted as you would expect from such a complex cast of characters who have regained their history - there is a direct reference to the recently reprinted Legion of Super Heroes: The Great Darkness Saga Deluxe (Vol.1) (and I did wonder if Darkseid was back at one point in the story...). The Time Institute is rebuilt (and triggers a catastrophe, the Green Lanterns make a re-appearance - another reference to events at the end of the Great Darkness volume), and Earth-Man is up to something as he is forced to join the Legion as part of Earthgov's attempt to rejoin the United Planets. There is even a legion leadership election announced...

Anyway, this is Legion storytelling at full-throttle, with everything old Legion fans could want, and everything new ones could want also. The Legion rises again. And again. And Again...
