Product Description Review

The first thing you'll notice when you get Legend of Dragoon, is that it comes on 4 CDs giving you the possibilities for hours of gameplay. As introductions to games go, this is pretty darn good, only one minor problem, make sure you save the game as soon as you have the chance. If you don't you'll be sitting through the (rather long) intro again as there is no way to skip it.

Once past the intro, you'll be presented with an RPG of sorts (similar in some fashions to the Baldur's Gate games on the PC). You take the role of the main hero and the storyline unfolds in a relatively linear fashion to begin with, leading you to new places and to meet new people (some of whom will join you in your quest) but once you have the hang of the gameplay, it rapidly becomes more open and you are free to do as you wish. The battle sequences will either be the main-stay of the game or the most infuriating thing you'll ever come across.

Taken from the 2D environment into a 3D battle arena with turn-based combat. You (and any companions) have the chance to attack enemies, use magical attacks, defend or retreat. You will gain items and experience points dependant on the outcome of these battles and your warrior(s) become stronger and more skillful as they gain experience. If you like RPGs or if you've never tried one before, give this a shot-you'll love it!--Andi Flower

5.0 out of 5 stars Legend of Dragoon 7 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This game is a work of art. It gives the final fantasy series a run for it's money. The graphics are very well done and the game plot is excellent, with twists and turns which leaves even more gripped while playing it. This game is a must for all hardcore RPG fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very well done! 21 Nov 2004
This is easily the best rpg beyond the FF7-9 series on the PSone. The battle system is unique, and the world and it's monsters are superbly done. The plot, despite starting off dubiously, thickens greatly after the first disc or so, and the games is massive in it's proportions. The greatest moments are the video sequences which are liberally spread into the fantastic gameplay. I'd say the only minor problem the game has is the world map has fixed routes, rather than wandering around, but there are so many towns and areas, it will seem irrelavent in comparision. Highly under rated game, and if you've played FF to death, this is the next stop.

5.0 out of 5 stars best game ever 3 Sep 2003
By A Customer
It took me 3 years to get hold of this game and it was worth the wait, when i finally found somewhere selling it i brought 2 copies. i have played the game through about 15 times the gameplay is just so good, and for such an old game (as my mate calls it) it has fast loading times and some pretty spectacular graphics. The game has 4 disks and their is plenty of side quests to do and even without these it will take u at least 60hours to complete, with the different stile of battling u cant just attack all the time u have got to have some timing as the better ure timing the more damage u can inflict, this is wot makes me believe that this game is better than many of the final fantasy games!

Legend Of Dragoon is probably the most Underated PSX Game ever.It was given 6/10 40% etc in most mags but i think it is something special.
You can tell a difference between a good RPG and a Bad one by the storyline. If you buy 4 discs worth of a game you would hope for a good plot,Dragoon doesnt disapoint in that department.
I would say it is almost a duplicated copy of Final Fantasy 7.But whats wrong with that!
I Wouldnt call Dragoon a better game than Final Fantasy 9 though as that is the creme of the crop in the RPG World but I would say this is Joint 2nd with FF7
Dont listen to The Critics,BUY UT

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 20 July 2001
By A Customer
Enthralling is one word to describe this game. It has been compared to FF7 too much. It is in a league of it's own. The voices during the battle scenes are wonderful and some of the FMV's are breathtaking. It is a must have for any RPG gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb and much underrated game. 8 Feb 2001
By A Customer
I hesitated to buy this game, having seen it slagged off in a few places. However the content of the more positive reviews convinced me to get it, and I'm glad I did. It is a superb, traditional RPG. The attention to detail by Sony is incredible, and every aspect of the game impresses. The graphics are awesome, the best I've seen in a PS RPG, and the gameplay and story are terrific, and very well integrated. The battles include an inovative "additions" system which keeps you on your toes throughout (as opposed to just choosing magic and summoning demons). Anyone looking for an immersive, high-quality game should try this. (And if you loved FF7 but were disappointed with FF8, then you would be mad to miss this!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Dragonball Z + FFVII = Legend of the Dragoon 21 Dec 2003
By A Customer
This IS an amazing RPG! It has lived up to its potential in storyline, battle sequence and coolness. The only uppsetting bit is when u equip ure character with a new weapon or armour the image does not change. You play Dart, a young 20yr old lone-wolf Rebel who's village has got destroyed. He goes on an exiting edge of your'e seat adventure where he finally learns the power of the Dragoon. It takes so long to explain but it IS woth buying if you are trying to own all the coolest RPG's in the world or just wanting 2 get started on the world of RPG itself. This is a must-have RPG 4disc RPG and WILL have u weeping at the end.
Happy Gaming!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If you can find a copy then buy it! 1 Feb 2006
I bought this game pre-owned quite a few years ago for a couple of quid when I used to work for a Game store. Having never played an RPG before I was unsure as what to expect from this game, however the screenshots on the back looked impressive and I was keen to give it a go. I didn't want to start straight away with the Final Fantasy series as from what i'd seen they looked a fairly complicated task of playing. After a few hours of playing this game i was absolutely compelled to complete it as it was unlike anything I had previously played. I admit it does take a little while to get into but once you gain access to the Dragoon powers it becomes a piece of pure brilliance! Spanning across 4 discs, this game took me some 90 odd hours to complete however the ending was well worth it and since then I have become fairly addicted to completing the Final Fantasy series, i'm currently quarter way through Final Fantasy X-2 having completed the previous games sequentially (yes I do have a girlfriend!). I've read in quite a few places that people think LOD is a rip off of Final Fantasy, which is a pretty strange thing to say considering every final fantasy game is near enough exactly the same as the last (blonde haired boy saves the planet from certain destruction armed with a sword and able to summon mighty monsters). Don't get me wrong i'm a huge Final Fantasy fan but Legend of Dragoon definately stands by itself as an impressive achievement; definately worth a better review than the one given to it by the press at the time. The game has you intially playing as Dart, an intrepid adventurer, before gradually introducing more playable characters to your team, building eventually to 7 warriors each with their own different personalities.
