An N64 Classic Returns in 3D

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D brings a completely re-mastered version of an epic entry in the beloved The Legend of Zelda game series to Nintendo's newest handheld system, Nintendo 3DS. The game couples phenomenally enhanced graphics with stunning, glasses-free 3D visuals to bring to life the daring adventures of its hero, Link.

A streamlined touch-screen interface and newly implemented motion controls provide a fresh and intuitive feel as players immerse themselves in the tale of the creation of Hyrule and the struggle for control of its all-powerful ancient relic. The game will also feature new challenges not included in the original game. The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest – a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons that feature the same graphical and interface upgrades as the main game. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Game Ever, just got BETTER! 19 Jun 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Normally I don't write reviews for products, but I felt I HAD to make an exception for this game.

Thirteen years ago a twelve-year-old girl sat down to play this game and was instantly transported to another place, and here in 2011, that now grown woman was just as instantly grabbed when the first glimpse of a now more sinisterly sneering Gannondorf was revealed in the images of opening sequence. Link waking up in his mostly identical-to-the-original house did not prepare me for the awe inspiring moment of stepping out into the Kokiri Forest for the first time. From that moment on, with each new marvel of added detail, the most common word to leave my mouth was "wow" even as a grin of utter enjoyment remained on my face.

-

Once sparce areas of grass and ground now dotted with upright stems and flowers.

The glory of seeing real hills beyond parts of the boundaries of the explorable areas, instead of flat unyielding walls you couldn't see beyond even from high ground.

The Lost Woods, now looking like a real woodland when you peer up to the canopy overhead.

And, as strange as this might seem... I was particularly piqued when I noticed that at night, light now shines onto the ground from the windows of houses. There are now so many small details that just bring the original even more to life, that weren't there before.

-

And then there's the revamp of certain locations and rooms in dungeons and the open world. The three I feel I must mention are:

The Temple of Time, for which my jaw literally dropped when I saw how it had gone from a plain hall into a cathedral complete with chandeliers and stone collumns.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the best game I've ever played 16 Nov 2011
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
For some reason I never got around to playing Ocarina of Time on the n64. I played about half of it on the Wii's Virtual Console though and can confirm the the 3D version is the defenitive version.

The clunky Nintendo 64 Graphics have been re-rendered to look better in 2D, let alone 3D. And the 3D in this game really works, riding Hyrule around on Epona feels breath taking in 3D, it's almost like being there.

For those who've never played a Zelda game before, here's the jist.

The Jist:

"You take control of Link, and solve puzzles around the world of Hyrule and in various dungeons, fighting bad guys, defeating bosses and collecting new items for your inventory that allow you to progress further."

If you've probably played this type of game before, but nobody does it better than the makers of Zelda, after all they've been doing it for 25 years. And if you haven't played this type of game before, maybe it's time you gave it a go.

The start of the game is fairly average, Zelda is renowned for starting slow, but it gets much much better. And when you finally finish the game, you'll be sad it's all over (if you do feel like playing throuhg a second time, you get to play the master quest, which has new more difficult puzzles and dungeons).

This is THE must have game for every 3DS owner. Once you've played it through it'll be the bench mark for all your future games.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's just like how I remember it! 6 Feb 2013

I wasn't as lucky to have played the original N64 version of the game, but the Gamecube port that came with The Wind Waker, and upon hearing of a total remake for the 3DS, I eagerly awaited its release. I might just say, not only does it bring back memories of riding across Hyrule Field, or navgating through the Lost Woods with Navi giving somewhat random (but equally useful tips), but it brings this masterpiece of a game to a new genaration. One criticism however, is that with a remake, they could of added some extras aside from a boss fight mode (e.g. cutscene viewer, something simular to the model-viewing thingy in WW).

5.0 out of 5 stars The best game ever, looking better than ever 10 Jan 2013
By Andromeda Descendent TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I didn't get this from Amazon, as I downloaded it from the Nintendo e-shop in a fit of excitement. I had bought a new Nintendo 3DS XL specifically for the Professor Layton series, but Ocarina of Time was my favourite ever videogame (I still have the box and cartridge, even though my Nintendo 64 gave up the ghost years back). I grew up with videogames and whilst I now enjoy the simulated violence of killing other players' virtual selves in Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III, I'm a big softie at heart and part of me will always fondly remember those gentler, more innocent games that have a whole other magic to them. I suddenly found I had to play this game again. Whilst it would have been wrong to give this game a high definition makeover, the added 3D depth does the near unthinkable and improves this game. It's a whole new experience now, and not only can you see Link and his world in 3D, you can aim your slingshot by simply moving the console around, and you can even go at any time into a Link's eye view and look up, down, left, right, and see the world at new angles, seeing detail you never really appreciated the first time around. I can honestly say, despite all the fun I have from all the modern games, this was and has yet again been my best and most fondly remembered gaming experience.
