Product Description

This novel continues the story which began in "Legend" and "Druss the Legend". For centuries the tribes of Nadir have suffered under tyranny, and await a warlord who will unite them against their oppressors. Three men, Talisman, Sieben and Druss are to change the fate of the continent.

From the Back Cover

Under the brutal oppression of the Gothir, the Nadir tribes dream of the Uniter, the Great One, who will bring the tribes together, and end their centuries of torment.

But for one man it is more than a dream. Talisman, a mysterious and enigmatic Nadir warrior, rides out to the Shrine of Oshikai Demon-bane, seeking the legendary eyes of Alchazzar, twin jewels of enormous power that will light the path to the Uniter. With him rides the beautiful Zhusai, a mystic tormented by the ghost of a long-dead Nadir queen.

But others desire the secret of the jewels.

Garen-Tsen, the sadistic power behind the Gothir throne, believes the magical gems will lead him to glory, and sends the elite soldiers of the Gothir army to sack the Shrine and defeat the few defenders. They cannot lose: five thousand men against a handful of savages and a renegade Drenai warrior.

But the savages are led by one of the most brilliant strategists of the day. And the renegade is Druss the Legend.

The Legend of Deathwalker is the latest compelling story of love, romance and heroism from the author of Winter Warriors, and continues the cycle of Druss stories begun in Legend and Druss the Legend.

Legend will always be considered by many as the best of the Druss trilogy because it came first. The Legend of Deathwalker will give it a good run for its money however. If this had come first it may have been the best Gemmell around, as it is it's an essential read.

I had never read a David Gemill book before. I was in a book shop looking for a good book to aleviate my boredom and as I read the back of the book I was intrigued. I decided to buy it and took it home. A couple of hours later I had to be torn from it to eat my dinner. The book seemed to grab me and it did not want to let go. The plot is enticing, you can't put the book down because you just know that something else is going to happen. It is a true fantasy book with your Hero helping out those in need, Shamans casting their magic and your obligatory bad guy being cruel and under-handed. I can't believe how long it took me to read the book - literally only a few days inbetween all the other stuff I had to do. i found every spare minute being taken up with the book. If the description on the back makes you feel in anyway at all interested buy it. It's worth it. Now sorry I have to go - I bought another Gemill book...

As with most of Daviid Gemmell's books, I read this in the space of a few afternoons. The book starts with Druss as an old man, defending the Drenai lands in a massive and ferocious battle against the Nadir which is told in "Legend" as Gemmell fans will recognise. During a break from the fighting, Druss recants his past adventures to a young and frightened soldier. The book describes his exploits in gritty fashion, mixed with a sense of high drama and magnificence. The climax is absolutely awe-inspiring and I recommend this book as a must for David Gemmell fans. For those people who haven't read any of Gemmell's books : Where have you been these last ten years? He is probably the best living fantasy writer in the business so either beg, steal or borrow a copy.
