This book is book 5 of the Libertus series and this one is situated in Glevum (Gloucester) itself in the year AD 187.
The main (fictional) characters in this book are Libertus "the pavement-maker", his wife/slave Gwellia, his boy slave Junio and Libertus's patron Marcus Aurelius Septimus.
The story begins with the discovery of a dead body in the inner shrine of the Imperial Cult by Meritus and from there on the story develops into a very thrilling and exciting mystery with quite a few twists and turns along the way until the culprit is revealed.
This book reads in a very easy way, it's very enjoyable and very entertaining as are all books by Rosemary Rowe, and it has a great plot and a very exciting finish at the end of the book.
I recommend this series very much to all people who like to read a lighter kind of mystery genre but with wonderful and great story-telling!
