Since the first time i played Championship Manager (yes, there are females wholove to play that as well), i was wondering why there wasn't a game where the player would be a music manager. So, when i heard the news about Rock Manager, i was like 'Finally! Someone thought of it!'. I waited patiently until it was released, and then i got it and played it.

The whole idea is, of course, great, as a concept. The characters are realistic enough, and i like the little gags they say every time you want to do something to/for them. But i expected to have a much wider selection of musicians. I believe this is going to be fixed in future versions, as well as an addition of other instrumentalists, and the ability to have other than the standard line up (I'd like to have, say, two bassists in my band).

Then, there's the missions thing. it's all cool, but i think the player should have the option of a free game. Form a band, record, get a contract, release, then record and release something else. You know, like real artists do. Oh, and, instead of just releasing songs, I'd like to be able to release a full album at some point, like in real life (I mean, what band only releases singles throughout their career?).

But, enough complaints. The missions are difficult, and they keep you busy all the time. The things that happen are often funny. the similarities with certain bands out there will bring a smile to your face (Lol and Nelly Gallander! Hilarious. Although i think their song is far better than anything their 'real' counterparts have done in the last 5 years...) Some of the music is really cool. The recording phase is fantastic (although I'd like to have a wider choice of gadgets and things to tweak and play with in the studio). And it gives you a good deal of insight into the music biz. H have to say I didn't know what a manager was all about.

The real problem is that, once you complete the 8 missions, the game is over, and you don't really want to do it all over again, because you remember everything you did, and there are no more susprises. That's why I think they should try and create a free game option. Such a great game should allow the player to continue forever!

ps: If they have that option in the next version, i'd also like to have 5 more characters resembling the members of Radiohead, so that I could manage my favourite band.... :-)

The best game EVER!!!
I got a demo of this game and immediately went out to buy it.
The game play blew me away, there are so many possibilities. Every character has his/her own personalities, likes, dislikes, give them gifts to cheer them up, spread rumours and even kill your artists. Borrow, buy, sell, spend, gamble, bribe.
Record your own video, and play it on the TV.
Reviews, interviews, scandals, gigs, international tours, bossy record lables.
Fly or flop.
Is your song a number 1?
NO?
Well you'll have to try again with another band, the fun will start all over again.
The only thing that could be done to make the game better was to be able to watch the band perform live.
AN EXCELLENT GAME!!!!!!!

Nice idea but... 20 Mar 2002

Right, firstly, its good fun to play for a while. Its very funny and clever in parts, but theres no denying the fact that its just far too easy. Each level only takes half an hour to do and the variation between them is minimal. Rarely did i need more than 2 attempts at each level. Strangely the last level is one of the easiest.
The ideas are good and if they had been implemented properly then i would highly recommended this game.
Recording the actual songs is a nice idea as well, but changing the voice or the way the guitar is played makes zero difference to how succesful you are in the game and so becomes irrelavant.
I await rock manager 2 with anticpation but having completed this one in 3 days, i just hope the next one has staying power of months rather than days.

Amazing concept, poor design...
Rock Manager is a great game. The idea is well thought out. Almost every scenario that a Rockstar may encounter is included. However, there are some flaws with the game. Read more
