Amazon.co.uk Review
The year, as the title suggests, is 2150. The planet has descended into anarchy in which three factions survive: the Eurasian Dynasty (slightly Russian), the United Civilised States (typically well mannered) and the Lunar Corporation (predominantly feminine). Basically drawing on the
Command & Conquer concept,
Earth 2150 is a real-time strategy with a difference.
The most noticeable feature of Earth 2150 is the 3D camera, which allows you to view the game from virtually any angle. Combine this with outstanding graphics and amazing attention to detail, you can't go far wrong. The environmental conditions, from rain and snow through the changes in light levels throughout the day, give Earth 2150 an edge on its contemporaries.
Like most RTS games, getting familiar with the controls is paramount to your enjoyment. The tutorial provides a perfect platform from which to learn your new skills. But even at the very basic level, strategy is essential. Planning, control and execution are fundamental for tactical success in Earth 2150.
Like the Command & Conquer series, Earth 2150 is seriously addictive and requires the time and patience to achieve the desired goals. Supporting multiplayer games (modem to modem, or Internet play), it comes with all the features you'd expect from an RTS game, plus that little bit extra. --Chris Hall
Product Description
After years of war, Earth lies in ruins. Now, it is plummeting into the sun. Your only chance for survival is to fight your way onto a shuttle to Mars. In a deteriorating landscape with hostile weather conditions, you'll need all your cunning and intelligence to defeat your enemies.
You can engage in Internet or LAN matches for up to eight players with the multiplayer mode. An easy-to-use map-editor lets you create your own mission map and post it on the Internet for immediate download. Mattel Interactive will also make a steady stream of new maps and other surprises available on the Internet.
The completely 3-D landscape demands that you take it into account as you plan your troops' movements. Dynamic weather effects can lay waste to large sections of the territory, and challenging day-and-night cycles will affect your strategy. You'll want to watch the shadows change as the sun rises above the horizon or sinks lower in the sky. Be ready to rethink your strategy as you wage battle on, above, and below the Earth's surface with a full arsenal of aircraft, tanks, robots, ships, and helicopters, or construct your own units from a choice of chassis and weapon systems.
