Product Description

Let's get something straight. Leadership doesn't exist solely in the world of business, politics and the military. Neither is it the exclusive realm of charismatic heroes. It's a NATURAL HUMAN ACTIVITY that occurs in every facet of our personal, community and professional lives; and, while leadership may take many forms, COMMUNICATION IS CENTRAL TO ALL OF THEM. In this succinct, compelling and highly practical book, Geoff Barbaro provides a simple, adaptable framework to guide your own discovery of what REAL leadership communication is in any situation - not the one-sided exercise of power and authority, but the building of authentic, values-driven relationships between people to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. "A terrific reference point for current and aspiring leaders." TREVOR YOUNG - EDELMAN AUSTRALIA "A thoughtful and practical contribution to the field of leadership." PROFESSOR MICK DODSON - AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY "I found useful ideas on every page." GEORGIA CUYLENBURG - I AM SPARTACUS ENTERTAINMENT "Provides indispensible advice on inspiring all those around us." RISHI A. MIYATA - THE CENTRE FOR STRATEGY, ENTERPRISE & INTELLIGENCE "A wonderful quick read." MICHAEL MARGOLIS - GET STORIED ABOUT THE BOOKS Far too many business books start with the false premise that offering meaningful insight requires exhaustive detail. They demand a huge investment from readers to wade through all the information provided and draw out what is relevant to them. In a rapidly changing, time-starved world, it's an approach that's getting wronger and wronger. What CEOs and other busy business people desperately need is high-level strategic insight delivered in quick, simple, easy-to-digest packages. Co-created by DAN GRAY and KEVIN KEOHANE, that's exactly what the 55-MINUTE GUIDES are designed to do. Instead of some 300-page pseudo-academic tome, they offer fresh perspectives and "must knows" on important topics that can be read from cover to cover in the course of a single morning's commute or a short plane ride. In short, they are the antidote to most business books. A QUICK READ, not a long slog. Focused on BIG IDEAS, not technical detail. Promoting JOINED-UP THINKING, not functional bias. Written to EMPOWER THE READER, not to make the author look clever. They're guided by the simple principle that INSIGHT GAINED PER MINUTE SPENT READING should be as high as possible. No fluff. No filler. No jargon. Just the things you REALLY need to know, written in plain English with clear and simple illustrations. 93

This is a must read book with fresh ideas on internal communications.

It had arrived in the post and was waiting for me when I got home. I couldn't put it down. Absolutely starving after work - I sat munching on dinner with a fork in one hand and the book in the other.

There isn't enough modern internal communications theory around but I'd say The Leader's Beacon goes a long way to filling an ever widening gap of knowledge. It is easy to read, easy to understand and makes sense. The best bit is that you don't need to wade through pages of heavy theory. The division into short chapters means it is easy to skip around and go back to sections when needed. I've been able to share it with clients during leadership coaching sessions without any concern about egos. Their response to it was also fantastic.

I say away with `followership' theory and loose the `two way communication' mantra. Geoff Barbaro's book brings together concepts that relate to today, giving a good groundwork for future internal communications theory.

Highly recommended and good value for money.
