The authoritative updated and revised action plan for leaders entering new roles

Your first 100 days in a new leadership role are critical to the success of your mission, your relationship with your new team, and your career. Turnover is high among new leaders who "didn′t work out" and the costs to them and their organizations are dramatic. The solution is for every new leader to have an "onboarding" plan. This updated and revised third edition of the bestseller The New Leader′s 100–Day Action Plan delivers expert guidance to prepare executives for their new leadership roles, accelerate their results, and reduce turnover.

With new chapters and sample action plans, the third edition:

  • Helps you assess the internal political culture you′ll be facing
  • Explains why your new job doesn′t start on "Day 1" but on the day you accept the offer––and how to use the valuable time before "Day 1"
  • Explains the "BRAVE" approach to motivating your new team members by understanding their Behaviors, Relationships, Attitudes, Values, and Environment
  • Includes downloadable forms to help you plan
  • Provides advice for your bosses—so they′ll know how to help you succeed

The third edition also includes a new 100–Hour Action Plan for crisis situations, which has been adopted by the American Red Cross. The new edition also explains how to use social media and other communication tools to reach and motivate your stakeholders.

Discover the right approach for your new role and engage your new colleagues by fully understanding the unwritten rules of the new context. The New Leader′s 100–Day Action Plan helps deliver better results faster.

By Rolf Dobelli TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
This basic book drills readers with a fundamental message: Good leaders follow specific plans and put their subordinates first. The authors furnish specific tactics you can use to become a disciplined leader, ready and able to produce a top team. George Bradt, Jayme A. Check and Jorge Pedraza split their material evenly among tips on being a good leader, case studies and printed planning sheets to use to set up your first 100 days on the job. The information is easy to skim; but the authors make some important points, including why you should start meeting key people in the company before you begin working in your new position. We recommend this basic career-building and team-building guide for every new manager's orientation kit. It's a small price to pay to survive and thrive in your new job.

If you are interested succeeding in your new role, this book is fundamental. I was pleased to see that I was not too far off by being somewhat proactive and organised in taking charge of my own onboarding action plan to hit the ground running but George Bradt, Jayme Check and Jorge Pedraza are truly exceptional in giving the reader all the tools and strategy in a more holistic and detailed way regarding transitioning. Additionally, it is written in a very easy to absorb way that makes sense. Of course, I am highly recommending it!

I recently bought this book before taking on a new job heading up a team in a diffent part of the company.

The book helped me to plan my transition and be aware of all the pitfalls that might be waiting for me. This gave me confidence and enabled me to "hit the ground running" when my first day on the job came along.

You don't need to be a CEO to get something from this book. Any manager or team leader who is preparing to change roles/teams/organisations could learn something from this book in my opinion.

Note though, to get the most from the book you need to read it BEFORE you start the new job, preferably at the same time as you start thinking about applying for it. If the vacancy looks too good to be true, the book suggests some things you ought to do to check it out before you accept it.
