Excellent read! 30 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback
This is the first Tom Harper novel I've read and after finishing it went straight on here to write a review and to order the rest of his books. This is one of the better Dan Brown type books that I've read, (and there are a lot of poor ones out there)blending the past with the present without too much historical jargon (but just enough to make it real!). Would reccomend this to anyone who wants a classy, flowing read.

Tom Harper novels are usually the 'can't-put-it-down' variety. `Lazarus Vault' is no exception, it is even more suspenseful than `Lost Temple' and like it weaves an intricate plot between past and present - this time with a central theme of banking world skullduggery across the ages. Totally perfect choice for a long flight, nights when you can't sleep, or just need to chill out. So far everyone I know who has read this new work has done so in one sitting, some doing all-nighters to manage it.
Also like other Harper work it is rich in intriguing historical detail. As someone once so aptly said of Harper " Da Vinci, but much better history! Harper has the power to totally transport the reader into other times and other places.

I've read and enjoyed all Tom Harper's books (except Book of Secrets which is on my to read shelf) and, while this one was no exception it would not appear in my list of top reads.
I didn't really engage with the lead character and I found 'The Brotherhood' to be pretty ineffectual against their arch enemy. In addition I found the jumping back and forth in time a little irritating as was, to a lesser degree, the changing tense.
I believe 'The Book of Secrets' also does this time jumping thing so it may remain on my to read shelf a wee while longer.

Interesting and exciting start, but then lost it
As others have stated, the book starts well and then rather falls apart from halfway. The first half is credible within the book's story space, with the main characters well... Read more
