I really like the idea of a multi-media novel. This book uses words, pictures and music to tell a very intricate story, allowing you to get all your senses involved !
Laura Esquivel wrote a fascinating tale of people looking for their twin-souls, who find that they have to repay their 'Karmic-debt' in full before they will have a chance to be truly happy. The same souls are brought together over several lifetimes, until they completely forgive eachother for any wrong done to them in previous lives and learn to love eachother unconditionally - in all this they are guided (or mis-guided) by Angels and Demons, the regulations of a futuristic world and (of course) the universal Law of Love ! The book is wonderfully written and beautifully accompanied by pictures to depict what happens to the characters over several incarnations. Whilst watching the illustrations you can listen to the CD provided, consisting of Mexican folk-songs and opera music, designed to evoke a 'suiting' emotional state of mind. It can be a little complicated to keep track of all the characters throughout their different incarnations, but stick with it and you will be rewarded !
If you liked 'Like water for Chocolate', you will also love this book - it has the same skillfully worked-out storyline, carefully explored characters and blend of humor and emotion.

Since you read the title, you must guess it is not a realistic book (Can anybody really mention A Law of Love??) Yet, it is really entertaining. What the author mentions in her story is the idea that people reincarnate several times until they settle any conflicts existing in previous lives, and to do so, it is necessary that in the following lives the people who you had these conflicts with, reincarnate close to you. I think this was really a fun book not only for the plot itself that is quite creative, but also because it as a multimedia book. It includes an audio CD and lively illustrations to make you feel as part of the book. For instance, if the person in the book is listening to some music that makes her dream of something, you can also listen to that same music with the aid of the CD while you see the illustrations and share her dreams. Isn't this innovative enough to be worthwhile reading it?

Without a doubt the best book I have ever read. The idea's and imagination behind this are outstanding. The illustrations are just an added bonus! I love the theory of a twin soul and having to atone for your past sins before being granted perfect fusion with them.
