This documentary contains carefully selected digitally restored exerpts from the lives of Laurel and Hardy. Beginning with the full programme of 'This is Your Life' which was broadcast live in December 1954. We then visit Stan and Ollie at the studio for their only other appearance in a Western other than 'Way Out West' in a rare and seldom seen sketch. This is followed by the only colour film of the two great stars 'Tree in a Test Tube' and then on to a Hollywood party which they gatecrash and get up to all sorts of hi-jinx. These sketches are shown together with rare footage of their 1932 UK tour along with interviews and the duo's last film appearance together.

Widely regarded as the finest comedy pairing of all time, it is no surprise that Stan Laurel learnt his craft in British musical hall whilst Oliver Hardy grew up with American vaudeville. Whilst they both enjoyed considerable success as solo performers, it was the on screen chemistry they achieved that ensures their lasting reputation. Indeed unlike many of their contemporaries, the comedy of Laurel & Hardy is timeless with films such as Flying Deuces as fresh today as they were when first made. This box set contains an interesting mix of films made by Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy before their pairing together with Flying Deuces and Utopia, the very last film the duo ever made. There is also the tribute television show This Is Your Life, making this a box set for fans of all ages.

Anyone thinking of buying this set should be aware that most of the DVD's feature EITHER Stan OR Ollie -but not both! Most of the films were made between 1919 and 1927 before the duo had teamed up. The exceptions are "The Flying Deuces" when the boys were loaned out to Hal Roach; "Utopia" or "Atoll K" made in 1950 after the boys had retired, and "A Lucky Dog" -the first film in which they appear together.A long lost "This is your life" from 1954 is included, and there are some interesting roles, including Ollie as the Tin Man in a version of the "Wizard of Oz"!!

I have just bought this box set from Amazon and although the picture is correct unfortunately the contents description of the Amazon.co.uk Review above does not match.
Here are the actual contents of the 8 Disc Box Set I received which I hope may help with your decision to buy it.

Titles on the dvd set
Includes: 'Utopia', Stan and Ollie inherit a yacht but end up getting caught in bad weather and crashing onto an island where they decide to form their own republic. Read more
