First screened as part of Channel 4's legendary music show The Tube, in 1987, The Laughing Prisoner was a brilliantly authentic spoof on the ultimate cult series, The Prisoner.
Written by Stephen Fry and Tube presenter, musician and lifelong Prisoner aficionado Jools Holland, the film stars Jools as 'Prisoner Number Seven', a successful TV presenter who gives it all up... only to find himself in the Village facing his indefatigable interrogator, Number Two: Stephen Fry. Also taking part are Fry's partner in comedy Hugh Laurie and Sir Stanley Unwin. Featuring extensive clips of Patrick McGoohan as Number Six, The Laughing Prisoner was filmed in Portmeirion and features on-location performances from Siouxsie and the Banshees, XTC and Magnum.
