*Amazon #1 Humour - #1 Memoirs and Biographies*

"What a delight this book was! The autobiographical book was very well written, and his entertaining, dry humor made me laugh out loud frequently!"

" I found his writing very entertaining with several belly laughs, lots of chuckles and even some snorts. Great book!"

"If you don't laugh at this, I don't think you can!"

The Laughing Policeman: My Brilliant Career in the New Zealand Police is the hilarious account of Glenn’s adventures as a police cadet from the time he first thought of the idea as a naïve teenager who hoped the uniform might attract girls, to his first nervous and calamitous months on the beat.

A multitude of disasters accompany Glenn during his testing year at police training college. No-one is more surprised than he is to survive, relatively intact, the physical, intellectual and emotional challenges of such a rigorous course and to emerge as a highly-trained, competent police constable. Well, more or less…

This is a warm and funny book that was a best seller in New Zealand but will appeal to anyone who loves a laugh.
This popular book has been re-edited and updated as an ebook.

More About the Author

Hi. I'm Glenn Wood but then you already know that because you've come to my page. I'm a freelance writer with four published books - Two about my misadventures in the Police and two children's books - The Brain Sucker and The Bully Chip(not available on Kindle yet but released in all good bookstores in Australia and New Zealand). I surf. I like dogs, and cats, Hell, let's just include the whole animal kingdom and be done with it (except those monkeys with the red butts, they're just plain weird).

3.0 out of 5 stars Mildly amusing 7 July 2013

I was drawn to this book having had a right laugh at some of the news items on the go when I visited NZ back in 2002. Such as man arrested for driving a bar stool to his local bar in the nude. He was arrested not because he was naked but the bar stool did not have a license plate! But I was mildly disappointed that most of the book was just a collection of stories about a clumsy youth who happened to join the Police - I just thought, I know loads of lads like this and it's only hilarious (as mentioned by some of the reviews) if you're a teenage lad.

Amusing insight into life of this policeman and one I can relate to having been closely associated with the UK police force. Easy read

5.0 out of 5 stars A seriously recommended read 1 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This book should be on the requirement list for anyone thinking of joining the police force, or any of the armed forces for that matter as the descriptions of the training could easily have been for them too. It doesnt matter that this is set in NZ as the situations and humour are universal.

It's basically the journey of Glenn Wood from deciding to 'try' to get into the police force (and very nearly failing to get past the first interview) through his training and finally his appointment.

The best thing about this book though, was that although there are some really poignant moments, some sad truths about the realities of life and some great characters (and even a tiny bit of romance), is that it really is laugh out loud funny. I was told to stop reading it in bed as I kept laughing and keeping my other half awake. So I read it under the covers, unfortunately the adventures of Floyd (a pink mini) were too much for me and I shook the bed with silent laughter. I had to pretend I was having a massive coughing fit or my kindle would have been taken away from me.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll LOL at TLP! 24 May 2013
By Queuez - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
With most comedy, while there's a kernel of truth, the rest is exaggeration on a BIG scale...this is a key difference between The Laughing Policeman and the competition - the Laughing Policeman is 99.9% true (in the author's mind anyway, so who am I to disagree!)

Best read with a box of tissues and incontinence pants, The Laughing Policeman is both hilarious and frightening - how DID this boy/man ever make it to the frontline of defending the fine nation of New Zealand from the criminal fraternity? And, back in the day, how MANY criminals were caught and arrested because they were too busy being convulsed with laughter at Constable Wood's antics? The law enforcers aren't saying but my guess is a multitude.

You should buy this book for friends who like a belly laugh...and buy it for the most poker-faced, humourless person you know, because I am convinced her or his face - along with the rest of their body - will start twitching uncontrollably at about the opening credits and stay that way for the duration.

This was interesting, but it just quit. I was left wondering what happened and why and when he left the police. The title should have been MY TRAINING FOR NZ POLICE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining! 24 May 2013

Not afraid to laugh at himself, Glenn Wood has written a somewhat humorous account of his early foray into employment. Glenn is able to see the funny side of the trials and tribulations of a naive young man. His natural talent for being ever so slightly clumsy is a large part of the journey that takes him through the police training then into the front line.
