Biography

You can learn a lot about someone by asking them what they think the greatest record ever made is. Take Alex Clare. Tell him you’re going round to his flat tonight with the express intention of smashing every piece of recorded music he owns – leaving him only one – and the ideas just come tumbling out.

“Wow!” he laughs. “If it was production wise ... Read more in Amazon's Alex Clare Store

On previous occassions, I have gambled on an album on the strength of one track and been sorely disappointed (Sam Sparro & One Republic being the biggest ones to date), but The Lateness of the Hour is a definite winner.

Every track has it's own identity, from the almost punk era guitar of 'Up All Night', the drum & bass-esque 'Treading Water', the now instantly recogniseable 'Too Close' right through to the ballad 'I Won't Let You Down' there isn't a single weak track. Even the remix of the Prince track 'When Doves Cry' is not only refreshing but, dare I say it, better than the original.

My only concern is that Alex Clare has set the bar extremely high for any follow-up album and hope he doesn't 'do' a Terence Trent D'Arby!!!

Great CD - all the tracks flow into each other whilst being stylistically different. This is one of those albums that despite being of the usual length - I thought 'Why has it ended so soon?' The album really showcases the varying talents of this really great musician ---- GET IT NOW

I recently saw Alex Clare play at Queens' May Ball in Cambridge. He easily outshone all of the other acts hands down. His music is easy yet interesting to listen to. He throws in some great beats, lyrics and rhythm to make this album my best purchase of the year. 'Tightrope' and 'Treading Water' are the two tracks that stand out but he slows it down for 'I love you' and his version of 'When Doves Cry'. Its a little bit calmer than Magnetic Man but still keeps a smile on your face. Just try it out and I promise you will love it!

I bought this album purely based on a comment Adele made in a tv interview that this was her favourite album.
Absolutely agree and totally recommend buying it.
