Reading a few pages of this book should be enough to discourage even a half-literate reader. The grammatical errors are astonishing, but even had they been cleaned up we would be left with wooden prose, cliches, and a plot that is too trite to recount without blushing. Obviously Geoffrey Hill the poet didn't write this. Even if he claimed he had, I wouldn't believe him.

I can't believe anyone is taking this rubbish seriously. This just has to be the product of vanity publishing. I carried on after page one simply because I didn't believe the prose style, grammar, descriptive powers could get any worse.I was wrong.

As the geoffreyhillthelastwizard blog spot makes clear, this is not the work of the poet. "This is my First Book to be published out of a Trilogy of Books..." This author lives in Harlow, while the poet currently lives, I believe, in Cambridge. I cannot comment on the Last Wizard since I have not read it (my star rating means nothing), but buy it or not on its own merits, not the coincidence of the author's name.
