I bought this book for my daughter because I was already familiar with the author Starhawk, and knew I would appreciate the earth-based peaceful message of her book. My daughter, who is two and a half, loves it! I was initially concerned I may have bought it a bit prematurely, as there is a fair bit of text for a two year old to sit through - but she is so spell bound by this book that that hasn't been a problem! I think this lovely book would also be suitable for an older child. The illustrations are slightly abstract, but really charming.

The Last Wild Witch

I sat in a small book store recently as Starhawk read her new tale to a group of maybe 30 adults and one child, and we were all totally involved in the story, and in awe. You would have thought we were a circle of all children, as we followed her words with all the sounds you would have expected from children. The Last Wild Witch is not only a very magical, beautiful story, it is a very welcome, positive one for children who have been so surrounded with negative stories of wicked witches and evil old women. I loved this book. The children are the heroes.

I loved this book. And I'm in my 40's.
It captures the spirit of the wild and what it feels like when the wild is threatened, with a good vision of the way magic really works. In the tradition of the Lorax, it brings both nature and social change to a new generation.
I'm sending a copies to my nieces and nephews of that age.

A great book to illustrate freedom, tolerance, courage, the wonder and respect of nature. The illustrations are colorful, lively. A good lesson to be learned by all in this wonderful little story. We need more like it.
