5.0 out of 5 stars Keeper Material! 31 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Don't let the cover of this book fool you. It's about a hero who "walks off the page". He's neither east nor west, but both. Add the romance to this historical adventure, and you have a real keeper.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fair read, but a great original plot. 28 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
If you love the art of the Japanese sword as well as San Francisco, this book will fascinate you. The plot was interesting, her concept of an American samurai was great, but what I found disappointing was the forced way she brings the hero and heroine together at times. I guess what I didn't like was that it read like a 'formula romance' - boy meets girl, they argue, they're forced together, they fall in love, have a fight, separate, then get back together. She needed more , at least for me, for it to be a page turner. But if you like a traditional romance, then buy this one, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast-paced, entertaining and well-written 26 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author incorporated enough of the exotic to make the story fascinating without overdoing the historical detail. The idea of a Western-born samurai was fresh and innovative. A good romance and an entertaining read, one of the best historicals I've read so far this year. This is an author to watch. She's definitely going places.

Ms. Kyle successfully brought the Eastern and Western worlds together in her characters. I really enjoyed the story line and it was filled with humor, history, and emotion. The leading female character was strong as well as stubborn, which made for a very interesting storyline when she meets and tries to manipulate the hero. Ms. Kyle did her research and I enjoyed the book. I am looking forward to reading more of her books soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars A first rate read! 12 May 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
The Last Warrior is a perfect blend of history, romance and adventure. I couldn't turn the pages of this unique novel fast enough. Jake Talbert and Meghan McLowry are rich, multi-faceted characters who captured my heart from page one. Intelligently written and interlaced with Japanese culture and beautiful poetry, The Last Warrior will keep you up until the wee hours.

In the mid-nineteenth century San Francisco, Meghan McLowry worries that the Tong will kill her beloved father. She hears rumors about a Captain Jake Talbot, who fights as an Oriental and collects Samurai swords. Desperate, Meg travels to the Japanese part of the city to hire Jake to protect her father.

Initially, Jake rejects the job until she offers to pay him with ancient swords that her father just obtained. These particular weapons belong to his family that he dishonored sixteen years ago when he lost them. Jake will do anything, including protecting Meg's father from the Tong, to be able to return the Samurai swords to their rightful place. As the pair reluctantly and loosely work as a team, they fall in love with one another. However, their growing feelings may not be enough to keep them and her father safe or allow him to regain his lost honor by returning the swords to Japan.

From futuristics to historicals, Kristen Kyle knows her craft and it shows in every genre she writes. THE LAST WARRIOR is an original with a refreshing plot, a hero in an unusual career (making him that much more fascinating and enigmatic) and a cast of secondary players that deserve their own story. Kristen Kyle has a superior talent that quivers so closely to the edge.
