Product Description

This is a collection of the In Her Name: The Last War trilogy, and includes the complete text of First Contact, Legend Of The Sword, and Dead Soul in a single volume.

The Terran survey ship Aurora makes a startling discovery in an uncharted star system: two planets inhabited by an advanced, and decidedly unfriendly, non-human civilization. Disabled by gigantic alien warships before it can escape, the Aurora is boarded by nightmarish blue-skinned warriors with claws and fangs who slaughter the crew in ritual combat using primitive weapons. The sole survivor, Midshipman Ichiro Sato, is returned to Earth as a messenger bearing a device that warns of an impending attack.

For that is the way of the Kreelan Empire, which has waged war against countless civilizations across the stars in its quest for a savior, one not of their own blood, foretold in an ages-old prophecy. With only a few generations left before their ancient species faces extinction, the Kreelans will wage their last war against humanity, hoping against hope for redemption of sins long past.

As Earth and the other worlds of the Confederation bind their wounds after the disastrous first battle with the alien Kreelan Empire, Ichiro Sato finds himself in command of the heavy cruiser Yura. His ship is one of many in the task force sailing for the renegade planet of Saint Petersburg, which Confederation intelligence sources believe has not only secretly built a fleet of warships to attack the Confederation, but has armed its ships with nuclear weapons, which have been outlawed in the human sphere for centuries.

Drawn into a deadly trap, the Confederation fleet and its Marines are fighting for their lives when Kreelan warships, led by the enigmatic warrior priestess Tesh-Dar, materialize out of hyperspace. As Tesh-Dar and her warriors wreak havoc on the humans, Ichiro, former Legionnaire Roland Mills, and a Confederation spy known as Scarlet, are faced with desperate choices from which they learn the true meaning of sacrifice.

Three years after the brutal first contact encounter with the alien Kreelan Empire, the Confederation is desperate for a victory. With over a dozen worlds under siege by legions of Kreelan warriors, President McKenna orders her military leaders to deliver a victory, no matter the cost, to give humanity hope.

Ichiro Sato, his wife Steph, Roland Mills, Scarlet, and the irrepressible General James Sparks are once again at the sharp end of the spear in a mission to take back the colony of Alger’s World from the alien invaders before the Kreelans have exterminated the human population.

But overwhelming firepower may not be enough. For leading the Kreelans is Ku’ar-Marekh, a warrior priestess who is feared even among her own kind. With her spirit trapped between life and death, drawn to war from a lonely sojourn among distant stars, she is known as the Dead Soul…

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brilliant Trilogy 2 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded the first (free) book in this trilogy and within the first few chapters was hooked, so I didn't hesitate to get the whole trilogy. The pace of the series is relentless, with a very good mix of space battles, ground warfare, politics and personal relationships - including in the second part an increased insight into the alien race through the eyes of one of their warrior prietesses. The story jumps between multiple characters throughout the books, but unlike many books every single story line is engrossing so even if you've jumped away from a story that you desperately want to continue with, you always pick up another story that is equally compelling. I was planning on reading someone else's work after finishing this, but I don't want it to end so have already downloaded the Redemption trilogy instead!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally absorbing 2 Sep 2012

Niven-isque, or even Pournelle-isque, series with Man-Kzin undertones. Totally absorbing, pacey and dare I say "intellectually" scifying (satisfying?!). No disconnects: there is a theme that runs through. There is loyality to principal characters.

Buy the trilogy of this and the (In Her Name) Redemption trilogy.

I would also recommend the First Empress but Michael has only done the first of what is probably another trilogy; it is also an excellent read but you will be left feeling slightly "empty" and desperate for him to get on and finish the trilogy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Read 22 Aug 2012

This is the omnibus version which contains three linked stories. If you enjoyed the other books in this series you will certainly enjoy this read. The story lines move along at pace and it is difficult to put down once started. The storyline leads to another set of books as i am sure we will all want to follow the story of the main charactures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent gripping stuff 30 Mar 2013
By hippy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After Reading the first book (First Contact) that i got for free I had to get the rest, I paid for the whole trilogy as it worked out cheaper than buying the other two books somehow.
The stories completely immersed me inside the "Kreelan universe" where humans have to survive against an enemy who fight to the death and never surrender.
Ichiro Sato is the only survivor of the first contact with an advanced and superior force of aliens and its up to him to take the message back to earth and tell them an attack is imminent.
The books have excellent battles in space and on planets and likeable characters throughout the entire trilogy.

If you like your scifi these books should keep you entertained for a while.

I liked it so much I ended up buying the other trilogy (In her name : Redemption Trilogy)

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read 21 Jan 2013

A great series well written. Though unlike other reviewers I did not feel any empathy with the Kreelans - perhaps it is something to do with them wiping out millions of people including children. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars An epic tale 17 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read all of the In her name books and have loved them all. The first trilogy that I read "The Last War" began with the free book First Contact. I couldn't put this book down, the story gripped me from start to finish. It is fast paced, action packed and moving in places. It's just brilliant.

If you like sci-fi you will love this book and I can thoroughly recommend the next two books as well.

I also downloaded the next trilogy and the first book of the third trilogy and made the mistake of taking my kindle on holiday! My wife wasn't impressed as I didn't speak to her much for a weeks! I couldnm't put my kindle down! I had to read the lot. Now I'm waiting for the final two books in the last trilogy!
