5.0 out of 5 stars The Last of Us Remastered Review! 1 Aug. 2014
By MrE TOP 50 REVIEWER

You will be in one of two camps, the first that simply never played the PS3 version of The Last of US and the Second that did and are wondering whether or not to upgrade to the PS4 version. For those in the first category, can I suggest you slap yourself around the face because you really did miss out! Joking aside lets talk about the game.

The Last of Us really was a triumph of what developers could create if they put their mind to it. Crucially the developers weren't pushed into rushing the game and as such when it did arrive on PS3 it was exactly as they intended. In my book the PS3 version even to this day remains one of the best games going and is certainly in my top 10 games ever.

So what is The Last of US? It's a Third person based, role playing adventure/horror game. You must survive in post apocalyptic America where a mutated fungus has taken hold and infected virtually everyone. It's edge of the seat stuff from beginning to end and really does showcase how good games can be!

Rather than waffling on and going into the ins and outs of everything in the game I simply want to say a few things about the differences between the PS3 and PS4 versions. While I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth upgrading to the next gen version if you still own a copy of the PS3 edition, as the PS3 edition was truly brilliant in itself. Be in no doubt that the graphics do look better with better textures and indeed the frame rate clearly running at a higher level (60 frames a second) and you can tell that simply by the fight scenes and shootouts as they run smoother on screen with no screen lag or graphical shudder (there wasn't exactly a lot of that in the PS3 edition but now it's completely gone).

The Last of Us is a narrative driven survival adventure in a world torn apart by a fungal outbreak that has devastated mankind and turned it's victims into mindless and dangerous hosts who's only intent is to harm and infect others.

I originally owned this on PS3 and played it through twice, considering it one of the best gaming experiences I had ever had. I recently had the chance to get this digitally in a mid week sale and jumped at the chance to get the game and play its expansion (Left Behind) for the first time.

The game plays out as a third person action game in which you play as Joel, a survivor tasked to see his young charge Elly safely into the hands of others and it evoked memories of "The Road" for me as they made their way across this ruined world facing horrific foes both human and otherwise. The relationship that develops between the two and their development as characters is brilliantly written and something games rarely achieve... believable characters who you truly care about come the end. Their journey is so beautifully written.

I've now played the game a third time and also played the DLC and I think I love this game more than ever. It might well be my all time favourite.

This game was the very best PS3 had to offer for me and has now jumped ahead as the very best on PS4. The game looks lovely and benefits from the additional power of PS4 to be presented in 1080P, it plays great and it has two of the best characters I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

This is a gem, miss it at your peril.

5.0 out of 5 stars An intelligent, moving, exciting, immersive game 1 Dec. 2014
By Richard
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4|Edition:Remastered
I am a mature gamer and like something a little more convincing than current running and gunning mega titles seem to deliver, as fun as they are.
This stands out as a truly superlative game as it has, in no particular order:
Very convincing and realistic dialogue - the chat between the two main characters is charming, moving, perfectly perfectly in time with the narrative....just so much more like a decent film than a corny game
The combat is such a great mix of frantic blasting with a shotgun, stealth kills, and crapping yourself because you have 3 bullets and there's an armoured truck chasing you.... it's very well done. I loved I am Alive for this and TLOU does this so well too. I don't like being undergunned and helpless, mind, but this gets the mix just right. I love the trip mines too.
It's a pretty game, which is important to me too
The music is excellent - i hate music in games and almost always turn it off within the first act. This is different
The way the set pieces run smoothly in to calm sections, with excellent dialogue smoothing the transition too, is really so good. And then all of a sudden it totally kicks off and the next thing you know you've been totally immersed for many hours. This really is gaming at its best. Perhaps not one for the gung ho crew but an intelligent, gritty, moving, story game that i'm not going to forget quickly like so many others

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome engaging game!!! 4 Feb. 2015
By GWChimp
Platform for Display:PlayStation 4| Edition:Remastered|Verified Purchase
I love playing this game, even though I'm rubbish! My poor game character keeps getting killed, but then after a helpful "tip" the game gets going again! Have compared this to some gameplay videos of other games on youtube, and I do not yet have any idea of what to buy once I eventually finish (probably months away from that event!) because they all seem rubbish compared to this game!! Chances are I will just start it again, but on a different difficulty level and with an attempt to make fewer mistakes, complete more stealth kills and earn more achievements.

Having started by claiming that I love playing this game, let me qualify that by also reporting my anxiety levels remain high throughout as I have no idea where the next threats are coming from, and thats even though I have been trying to pay attention to the cheat/hint/tutorial pages and youtube videos (and there is a really good bricks and bottle tutorial on youtube by James Howell)

I'm currently playing completely offline (the DLC is apparently already on the disc), and my friends tell me the MMO "factions" game is also lots of fun! I've not wanted to buy any special weapons/enhancements as that might just make the game less challenging! Totally recommend this game for people who like anxiety/killing/emotional engagement with game characters!
