I first saw this when I was about 5 and loved it! I used to drive relatives loopy watching it but I adore the story, it has everything that makes a good fairy tale; a scary villan, magic spells and of course fantasy creatures like the unicorn. I recently bought it on DVD and watching it again (as a grown up!) you pick up on lots of little things you never would've noticed when you were wee! It looks a bit dated now of course, the animation styles and things are very 80s, but to me that's half the charm of something enjoyed when small and still enjoyable now!

I bought this for my lovely girlfriend because it was her favourite film as a child. I am 31, saw it this week for the first time, and thought the film was brilliant. I am amazed that it is not really known that well in Britain. Unlike many films for adults, The Last Unicorn never once hits a boring patch, it pulls you along, and unlike the more simplistic Disney films deals with more mature themes. Even the baddies are painted with sympathy, their actions explained by their weakness rather just "because they are the baddies". Bring an ounce of adult cyncism to this film and you'll break the spell, but approach it like a child yourself and you'll love its innocence and ethos of sheer goodness. The wonderful, beautiful music by 'America' is stunning.

Having seen the film as a child, when I saw this for sale on DVD I just had to buy it. The story is of a female Unicorn (Mia Farrow), who, on hearing from some huntsmen that she is the last Unicorn, sets out to find others of her kind. On the way she meets a variety of colourful characters, including Schmendrick the Magician and Molly Grue. The story takes a sinister twist with the appearence of the Red Bull who drove all the other Unicorns into the sea. It is a magical tale with beautiful animation which will capture the hearts of both children and adults alike.

My daughter loved the last unicorn DVD, but said that very young children might find it too scary !!! She thought it was an excellent story.
