Product Description

Album Description

The collection on this album is no more, nor no less, than Ronnie Drew's musical epitaph, the music he wanted the public to hear after a lifetime of playing and recording in the world-renowned style of The Dubliners and their associates.

This album is different; the musicians backing Ronnie are jazz players, the duets are with some of the leading Irish singers in a diversity of styles, including classical, and Hugh Buckley's inspired arrangements place Ronnie in a setting he has never had before. It is also something of great historical importance - Ronnie Drew's last record, made between November 2007 and May 2008, three months before he died of cancer.

FOND FAREWELL 13 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
A very moving finale to a life in music. Have been a fan of Ronnie's for 40 years and will miss him. It is hard to take that his unique voice is forever stilled. However, we still have all his dozens of Dubliners' recordings and many solo performances to enjoy.

A fond farewell 1 Mar 2010
By DGT
Format:Audio CD
Please do not buy this unless you are already a fan. Ronnie's voice, which he himself said would fit no classical mould but was "more a story-telling kind of voice", has deteriorated and he sometimes finds it difficult to hold a tune. Often his voice is swamped by the accompaniment. Most of the songs will be familiar from other albums, enabling a comparison with how he would have sung in his extensive prime. Often I find it difficult and upsetting to listen to; indeed, it could be argued that it should not have been released. It is, however, a brave attempt by a brave man and deserves 5 stars for that alone.

Goodbye Ronnie 25 April 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not how you usually think of Ronnie Drew - just bought it for old times` sake, and probably won`t play it again. Sad to hear the obvious weaakness in his voice, but if you`re a fan, a must-buy, if only as a tribute to him.
