Diana Palmer once again caputures your heart with this book. Callie and Micah are brought to life with the story which includes Kidnap, Mercenaries and of course love. Once you start you find it very had to put this book down. Excellent reading especially when the nights start drawing in!!

Six years ago Jack Steele found his only son wrapped in the arms of his much younger wife. When Kirby asked her mother if she'd been having an affair with her stepson Micah Steele, her mother didn't deny it. The breach in the family has never healed -- especially for Kirby. Despite her strong feelings for Micah, Kirby had been in his arms only once, which turned out disastrous, leaving her humiliated and hurt. She still carries the scars of that encounter.
Kirby doesn't know how much Micah regrets those hurtful words, or far he would go to save her from harm. But when drug lords kidnap her in retribution for Micah shutting down part of their operation, Kirby's learns that her step brother's nothing like he seemed. As the past comes to the forefront, they will both be afforded the opportunity to heal old wounds. Micah keeps his life very private. Diana Palmer creates a fast paced narrative filled with suspense and intrigue in THE LAST MERCENARY. Fascinating in scope, with intriguing characters that must rise above their pain to accept the heart's full measure, THE LAST MERCENARY will keep readers on the edge of their seats. These multifaceted characters as well as the complex plotting result in a fascinating read, which comes highly recommended.

There is no other author that is so prolific yet so consistant in writing books that I enjoy. I have adored almost all of Palmer's books that I have been able to get ahold of, and this one is no exception. Yes, it sticks very much to her standard formula, but true fans should expect that. I don't buy the "I usually like her books, but not this one" from some critics, because this is CLASSIC Palmer. Callie is young, virginal, naive and totally in love with Micah who is older, wiser, experienced, mysterious, and fighting his attraction to her for all he's worth. Been there, done that, but that's why Palmer has so many fans - we love the alpha-male hero who gets taken down by the innocent heroine. It has worked in so many of her other books, and it works in this one, too.

After being so disapointed with her latest Mira release, The Texas Ranger, I was so hoping she would return to her classic style in her new Silhouette, The Last Mercenary, which tells the long awaited story of Micah Steele, and believe me, if you are a true Palmer fan......You will be thrilled!! Palmer returns to her unique and familiar writing style which has made her a favorite among her fans. It was exciting to see the remaining single Hart brothers, Rey and Leo, make a brief appearance towards the end, with promises for their own stories in 2002!! Avid Palmer fans.....She's back!!!
