This has the potential to be a really beautiful read. The language is at times poetic and there is something compelling about the intense feelings the two characters have for each other. Sadly it just doesn't do enough to convince you or make the characters real. I found it impossible to believe the young woman would fall for a man so much older than her and I couldn't quite stop thinking of the dying writer as a dirty old man. Also it all moves too quickly - one minute their are hands brushing as they drink tea and just hours later they are madly in love and falling into bed. Setting this book over one weekend was a mistake - their feelings would have been no less intense and actually more believable if spread over a longer period of time. Call me a cynic but what these two experienced was lust and dressing those feelings up in the most beautiful language to make us believe it is love doesn't ring true.
