A.D. 2088. Missionary daughter Abigail Caldwell emerges from the jungle for the first time in her thirty-four years, the sole survivor of a mysterious disease that killed everyone else in her village. After receiving a curious message from her grandfather, Abby goes to America, only to discover a nation that has that has become completely secularized and all religion has died away. A curious message from her grandfather assigns her a surprising mission: re-introduce God to America, no matter how insurmountable the odds.
But a larger threat looms. The world's leading artificial intelligence industrialist has perfected a technique for downloading the human brain into a silicon form. Brain transplants have begun, and with them comes the promise of eternal existence. Abby and Professor Creighton Daniels, a historian troubled by the mystery of his father's sudden death, uncover a plot to force the entire planet to convert to this "transhuman" status--and forever lose all possibility of a connection with God. Together, they begin to unravel the conspiracy, attracting the attention of the powerful and devious men behind it. In a race for their lives, Abby and Creighton search for the truth while humanity's spiritual future hangs in the balance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read! 24 Dec 2010
Format:Paperback
Although I do usually read fiction, I have never actually read a science fiction book - until now. Set in 2088, this book imagines a world where many diseases have been eradicated, Africa has made progress and across the globe life expectancy has drastically improved with life at 120 years expected. It is at this point in history that a young American lady Abigail Caldwell emerges from the interior jungle of Papua New Guinea (cut off from the outside world since birth) after her village was mysterious wiped and heads to America to find that the America that her parents talked about has dramatically changed - and on the verge of something catastrophic. It is a riveting book, with many twists and turns. A wonderful book with a positive message. Strongly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An exciting look into the future 1 Aug 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is set in AD2088 and looks at what our world may have become by then in a very realistic manner. A world controlled by technology, where people live much of their lives in `Virtual Reality'. The latest proposal is for humans to have their brains replaced with brains that will last for ever. Into this world comes a young woman who has lived all her life in the jungle.
I found this an exciting page-turner of a book, but one that also made me think about what our lives are for. It's well worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unexpectedly brilliant 6 Oct 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Shades of the beginning to John Grisham's The Testament, as a missionary comes out of the jungle to face a very different lifestyle, belief system, and in this case very advanced technology.

It's 2088 and reason, science and technology have developed significantly to leave Christianity and other religions behind. But there's something about Abby that's different, and intriguing. She has something that others don't.

Well researched and paced thriller, genuine page turner, with insights into future developments and the role of faith. And a fascinating take on 'life' and what it means, especially from a Christian perspective, though it's neither heavy handed nor a Bible bash.

Recommended.
