On holiday in Saltbottle, Grandfather and Roo discover the Unsinkable, the boat which took them to the North Pole in the first book, lying in a sadly dilapidated state and up for sale. At the auction, the short-sighted auctioneer accidentally sellsthe boat to Roo - sold to the old lady in the brown fur coat! Now they have to find the money and the Captain suggests a fishing trip to the Great Cod Banks in the Forgotten Sea. Off they go, but the trip ends in disaster when the boat sinks and Grandfather and Roo are cast away on a desert island. They find their own Man Friday (called Tuesday) but he turns out to be a film director staying in a luxury hotel. Meanwhile, the Captain has found the treasure and rescued the Unsinkable.
About the Author
Harry Horse was born in Coventry. He wrote and illustrated several children's books - including THE OGOPOGO, which won the Scottish Arts Council Writers' Award. He was well-known as a political cartoonist and produced cartoons for the New Yorker, The Guardian, Scotland on Sunday and The Scotsman. Harry died in 2007.

The Last Castaways is all about Grandfather(Harry Horse) and Roo his funny, faithful and beloved dog.
It begins in Grandfather's garden, Roo's digging holes that don't need to be there aswell as defending it from Robins! The next day they find out that Uncle Freddie has asked them to go on holiday with him. When they get there Uncle Freddie's had enough of Roo and goes home, the Hotel manager also has enough of her and they are asked to leave. They come to a pub where they find the Captain of the Unsinkable (the boat from The Last Polar Bears) it's here where the fun and adventure begins.

I've read this book with my neice & nephew and we've laughed all the way through. It appeals to adults and children and is very well written and just brilliant! The Last Polar Bear is also by this author and is very funny and beautifully illustrated. A must for all book shelves!

What a cute book! My kids loved it. they wanted me to read it again and again... I went out and bought the other ones too. they were just as great! I do recommend it! We had a good time reading them together.

I bought the audio book in London because I thought it would be fun to listen while in the car ride home from the airport when we returned. The car was silent listening to the adventures of Grandfather and Roo. My daughter was 7 and loved it! She is 10 and still gets it out to listen on trips. She has taken it in to school for class quiet time and the classmates love it! It is an adorable tale that had us in stitches at every turn. Get all of "The Last ..." series by Harry Horse, but get this audio book! The British accented reading is the best way to experience the humor of this story.
