This is a well-written manga about Prince Zuko's life right after being banished from the Fire Nation. It's relatively short in length (the actual story is shorter than the number of pages suggests because it has extras in the end about how the comic was made), but definitely worth the money. It's an excellent read for any airbender-fan who wants to learn more about Zuko's past and better understand why he behaves the way he does. I've read the comic several times and the extras are interesting as well.
The tv-show is a funny, action-packed and meaningful adventure that appeals to all ages, unlike M. Night Shyamalan's movie version, which was so poorly acted and written it was almost painful to watch. This manga is namely a prequel to the movie, but thankfully it's much better than the movie, and largely in canon with the series. The writers have really done their research on the show, the comic makes references to characters and events from it, and some characters like Azula are drawn exactly like in the series.
The story itself consists of several rather unrelated encounters young Zuko makes on his journey. The heart of the story, the thing that ties everything together, is Zuko's complicated, yet evolving relationship to his uncle Iroh, who helps him to deal with loosing his family, home and status virtually over night. Zuko and Iroh are drawn like in the movie, but as far as their personalities and backgrounds go, their very true to their original selves.
