Jill Murphy's wonderful Large Family, first encountered in Five Minutes Peace return in another story which will strike a chord with busy parents everywhere. It's Mr Large's birthday and Mrs Large is planning a quiet night in without any children. Unfortunately, instead of getting the children to sleep early, the effects of a long day catch up on the parents and, as so often in the Large household, things don't quite go according to plan.
The Large family may be elephants but the situations in which they find themselves are all too human and all too familiar to families everywhere. (Ages 3 and over)

I (and my son) became fans of the Large family since we read the first book, Five Minutes Peace. I was looking for hardback edition with all four stories, alas without success. So... as soon as this book appeared at Amazon I've ordered it although we already had all the four books in paperbacks. I have to say I am slightly disappointed by this edition compared with paperback versions. Some of the pictures got too small while others (for instance, my son's favourite one where the dieting elephants get rid of crisps, bisquits and bananas) have disappeared altogether. If you have kids and never had any of the Large family books, buy this book. It is great value and stories are just wonderful. You will love them. But if you've got the original paperbacks, don't hurry to throw them away.

My four-year-old son and I love the Large family. The pictures are really great and the best thing about them is that the stories are easy to relate to, as they happen to most of us. A quiet night in sets a good example for kids and makes it easy to explain that a little 'non-kids-time' can be neccessary.

A brilliant collection of books that kids really love
These stories are really enjoyable for people of all ages, adults included. The stories are relatable and the illustrations are lovely.
