I have their first book 'Landscape Quilts', and thought that this book would perhaps go into more detail. Instead this small book really rushes through a load of finished quilts, with a selection of possible fabrics and a description of how it was done. I would much have preferred a book which had say only 3 or 4 quilts, but showed the stages of making them in detail.

If you have the first book, unless you just want to look at pictures of quilts, don't bother with this one.

wonderful art quilt book 24 Mar 2007
By Joyce M. Carey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Wonderful photography, page after page of beautiful quilts created by Natalie Sewell and Nancy Zieman, in many cases including the scene or photograph that inspired the works. Good detail shots when needed, as well as photos of works in progress. The text is very readable. It's a how-to book in a way--the authors give tips on the rules of perspective in order to create realistic landscapes, and also how to use non-fiber materials such as pastels in order to add highlights and shading. The artists have a feel for gardens and landscape that heighten realism by choosing what to leave in and what to leave out. Many of Sewell's quilts are characterized by the illusion of deep space that makes the viewer feel as though it is possible to walk into woods and disappear into the mist. Whether you are a quilter, sewer, friend of a sewer or just want to enjoy a beautifully illustrated book, this one is a winner.

The Magic of Landscape Quilting 28 Mar 2007
By J. Kasprzyk - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This is the best book on the art of landscape quilting on the market today. The quilts are exquisite, the format is inviting, and the written text is superb. The authors reveal their trials and problems, as well as their successes and secrets, and they open magical doors for the reader who feels as though she's been invited into their studios to watch them work. The honesty and clarity of the writing is unique. Natalie Sewell talks about watching a movie while doing the tedious job of cutting leaves, and starting over when sections became too dark, and glueing and unglueing, and knowing, somehow, when it's finished. Although we are aware that it's the authors inherent talent that makes these quilts pieces of art, we are inspired by this book to believe that we, too, can turn cloth into magic.

Another Winner by these two ladies 20 April 2007
By Lydia Stroud - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I eagerly awaited the publishing of this book, and when I received it I wasn't disappointed at all. As an avid realistic style landscape quilter and contemporary art quilt fabric arist, I found the photos alone in this book were a treat for the eyes. A bit thin on techinque comparison to the first book, this book makes up for that with a larger variety of sample actual quilts done, and the inspiration behind each one. I couldn't recommend this book any higher than I do...for anyone who want to make the huge oversized wall quilts that I specialize in, or to use the ideas and bring down the size to a smaller more managable piece, this book will be a fine addition for reference, ideas, and just a good sit down and look at the pictures to enjoy type of book.
