More Of A Disjointed Song Album Than A Representation Of Yared's Score

In The Land Of Blood & Honey is Angelina Jolie's debut film of a love story set within the Bosnian War. A film that is beautifully shot with Gabriel Yared handling scoring duties. Instead of a full length album of his score we get a song album with only 9 minutes of score. Now, I haven't seen the film but I have to imagine there's more than 9 minutes of score in this 2 hour film. I don't know if the purpose of the album was to get Bosnian artists some recognition and residuals, but I can say the teasing amount of what sounds like an amazing score is frustrating.
What we have here is good. The score is propulsive yet has the proper tone. It can be mellow and dreary but it has an energy to it. Some of it is reflective and hopeful with light strings and a trickling piano. There is a romantic feel to it with a tragic undertone and it's done very well. So yeah, 1 song and 3 score tracks by Yared. What follows is a nice selection of Bosnian songs (and 1 performed by Bono).
What should have been a great score release becomes more of a fundraising album. It's a great sampling of a nation's sound but if you're looking for a score album you're out of luck. It's impossible to grasp any dramatic flow from the 3 tracks of score and I wish they went the separate album route. However, I could be wrong and when I see the film and find out there was no score I will eat my words.
