I bought this book after reading a couple of my Gran's original Ladybird books that she still has. She bought the Ladybird book on trains, which my son loved, despite it being fairly technical and dry (full of statistics and numbers). I realised that the kids like factual books too, if they are aimed at the right level.

My daughter (aged 6) is doing Kings and Queens at school at the moment, so I thought I'd start with this one. I have read her a few bits and pieces, and she has read a few of the others to herself. It is a bit much for her to read all in one go, but hopefully over time she will pick up the history.

The person who has got most from the book is - me!! It's a well summarised history - one page per monarch, with family trees for each period. I don't remember being taught this in any great detail at school myself, and I'm not so interested that I would research it much, but this little book is fairly much everything you need to know, to have a basic knowledge of kings and queens in this country. I certainly found it much more interesting than I thought I would, and it covers every monarch since Alfred up to Elizabeth II.

A must have for any children's (and adults!!) book shelf.

Very good 24 Sep 2011

This gives a brief overview of the Kings and Queens of England - not too in-depth but interesting enough for a 6 year-old to follow chapter by chapter. I'm very pleased with it.

Great Little Book 1 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
I bought this book when from out of nowhere my 3 year old developed a fascination with Kings and Queens. It's a subject I love myself, but he wanted pictures and stories as well. It's obviously aimed at a higher age group so he can't sit and read it himself, but as something for me to sit and read to him it couldn't be better. He already knows the Kings from Edward the confessor to Edward III by heart including all the grizzly details of how they died (his favourite thing to know!).

Buy this book, you may not be aware that you need it, but once you have it you won't be able to do without it!
