Book Description

The last thing Jeremy expected when he moved to Thailand was to fall in love with a ladyboy. But that's what happened. And all went well until he decided that the one thing he needed to create the perfect family was a baby. That's when it all went horribly wrong.

The Ladyboy Lover is just under 10,000 words, about 30 pages, perfect if you have half an hour to kill.

Stephen Leather is the author of Private Dancer, the bestselling cult book about the Bangkok bar scene. He is also one of the UK’s most successful thriller writers and is published in more than twenty languages. He was a journalist for more than ten years on newspapers such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong. Before that, he was employed as a biochemist for ICI, shovelled limestone in a quarry, worked as a baker, a petrol pump attendant, a barman, and worked for the Inland Revenue. He began writing full time in 1992. His bestsellers have been translated into more than ten languages. He has also written for television shows such as London’s Burning, The Knock and the BBC’s Murder in Mind series, and two of his books, The Stretch and The Bombmaker, were turned into movies. 4.0 out of 5 stars The Visual Thing 21 July 2013
By Patsy

As usual with Stephen Leather this was well written, he never disappoints on that score. What surprised me was how touched I was by this sad little tale. It's a generally accepted thing that men go for the visual where sex/partner selection is concerned and that principal seemed to be the driving impetus here. The main character wasn't gay but could not overcome the draw of the beautiful creature he'd encountered and simply proceeded to block out the fact that she was a he, but then happily he just fell in love with his ladyboy. The love and happiness they shared was presented so beautifully the ending came as quite a shock (I won't spoil it).
There was a lesson to be learned here for all of us irrespective of gender - to look beyond the surface.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Happy Little Normal Family - Father, Mother... 20 Jun. 2013
... and a child - that was everything he wanted.
And so they maybe could live happy ever after, but...

Peter, ex-accountant from Birmingham, now permanent resident aka ex-pat since 35 years in Thailand, with a Thai wife and three kids, meets Jeremy in Jool's Bar on his third day in Thailand. He is sipping away one Chang Beer after another, and soon John has got the whole story: Peter's wife left him for a taxi-driver, took the daughter and the dough. Peter was without home, but had a nest-egg for rainy days. Now he was in Bangkok, an unemployed, unhappy photographer, hoping for a new life in the Land of The Smiles...
One evening Peter and Jeremy on the way to an other drinking place, passed the Casanova's - known for its ladyboys. But the last thing Jeremy expected when he moved to Thailand was to fall in love with a ladyboy. But that's exactly what happened.
And all went well until he decided that the one thing Som and he need to have a perfect family was a baby. They found Wan as a perfect surrogate mother. Being from Isarn, her life has been everything but roses until now. But that is about to change, and soon, too...

A happy, little, normal family - father - mother - child, was all he wanted.
And he did all he could to create it...

An other of Stephen Leather's exotic-erotic short stories, the narrative always without being vulgar.
Very worth reading it! Highly recommended for all sexes - male, female and the third one, too :)!

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit of light reading 11 Aug. 2013

Very funny in an ironic kind of way. I'm sure this sort of thing is quite normal in Thailand and has probably caused many an embarrassment with the holidaymaker. Gives quite an insight into the ladyboy trafficking.
