I had forgotten how good Julie Garwood is until I was captivated by this story. Right from the start you are enthralled as its unique the way that she weaves & then draws the reader into the characters. From the beginning you love the baby girl that is Christina. Without giving anything away at this stage you would think that the red indian touch would be bizarre but no she orchestrates that & everything else beautifully.
Its enthralling the way that Christina views life as she was raised by the native Indians of America & when she met Lyon whose name alone drew him to her, it made for a fantastic read. The best parts i liked about the story was the humour, the strength of character of Christina as she was not intimidated by Lyon, the way that the hero came accross as the protective macho type & best of all the interaction. It is a pure story & one that will keep you "gripped to the end" & the supportive secondary characters are brilliant from friends, sisters to the servants. The simple yet effective way that Christina expresses her emotions, feelings, hurt & sorrows- you never want the story to end. Please read this & you will not be disappointed. It now has the elevated position as a keeper on my shelf.
I loved the way that Christina would do or say something that was quite daunting & then walk away from the situation leaving Lyon absolutely appalled & frustrated that she would turn her back on him or the way that she saw things literally. I love the way that the interaction between the two is handled e.g. when he finds her in a room full of men in a pub & he glares his displeasure & then asks all the men to leave the room. When he discovers that he loves her & then attemps to teach her how to return the feelings - truely very very romantic.
One thing that i found a little strange though was the frequent use of the word "quit" by the author- you will know what i mean when you read the book but despite that its still a magnificient find!!!
The story is original & very well orchestrated right to the end even though it spans from Christina's birth to her adulthood. You grow to love the adorable nuances of her character though & you also believe in the love that Lyon has for her. I have just gone & bought 4 more books from Amazon by this great author.
