Glasgow Herald

‘You will never read a more incisive account of addiction’

Review

'Clear-eyed, unsentimental, necessarily self-indulgent. It invites comparison with Tobias Wolff's This Boy's Life and James Ellroy's various fictionalised essays on his mother's murder' Observer 'Uplifting, and life-affirming, even rather beautiful A darkly bright, hugely compassionate, and oddly redemptive story of loss and failure, guilt and addiction' Independent on Sunday 'You will never read a more incisive account of addiction' Glasgow Herald 'Unflinchingly honest, beautifully written and utterly heartbreaking, The L.A. Diaries is a haunting and powerful tale of love and loss' Ink

MUST READ! 14 July 2008
Format:Paperback
This book was top class.

The book jumps back and forth and flows into different periods in the writers life and tells the story of his mixed up and down relationships with his Family and Alchol/Drugs. Its sad, funny and best of all true.

I loved this book and will keep it in my collection along with the greats(Kerouac/Bukowski/Hamsun/Fante &Co.) where it belongs. I think we can all even learn a little about ourselves by reading this book and our relationship faults with our own family members.

Beautiful Book!

Good purchase! 20 April 2009
By a byer
Format:Paperback
Good purchase!
Gr8 book, giving a real insight on what it's like if you want to make it in hollywood.I found it a tragic autobiography, and found myself really feeling with the author on many times. If I had to name one drawback it would have to be the length-I would have liked it to be more of it!
It begins when he's(author) already grown up and doesn' really contain much information about his childhood.(Just a little thin,as a book)Overall a very good buy

A Little-bitti-tear 4 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
Yes, despite the no-mercy man-of-iron sweep & style, I found the tear forming behind my specs!!!!....couldn't put it down!!
