Book Description

30 April 2007
Two names reigned supreme in London's underworld in the sixties - Ronnie and Reggie Kray; and it wasn't until 1969 that the twins went down at Brixton Prison for murder. I was only seventeen, on remand up in Risley, Warrington, for nicking a furniture lorry. Most of the lads in there had newspaper photos of the Krays stuck up on their cell walls. They were the cream of the criminal crop, and that's why I took such an interest in 'em. Once I was put away, it wasn't long before I got to meet them, and over the next 29 years I got closer to the Krays than any self-proclaimed henchman, any autograph hunter. As their trusted friend they let me in on it all - no holds barred behind bars! Since Ronnie and Reggie died, all I've heard is a load of bollocks! 'Reggie shot my cat; Ronnie stabbed my uncle Bert 75 times; Reggie ran over my hamster; I'm Ronnie's son, I'm Reggie's daughter.' Gutless maggots spreading rumours with their sham stories for sale. The shameless rats. Well now the twins are gone and I can talk. And let me tell you, I've got a lot to say and all the time in the world to say it. No bollocks. No silly stories. Just the facts about the time I spent doing porridge with the Krays.

About the Author

Charlie Bronson is a prison legend. His singular mind, quirky humour, peculiar beard (and acts of occasional violence) have made him a cult figure across the country. His books sell by the truckload. His original autobiography Bronson sold more than 150,000 hardbacks; this was followed up by Insanity: My Mad Life which did similarly well...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not very good 5 July 2013
By FJY
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been interested in the Krays since I was a teenager. I have bought and read countless books about them and also the books that have been written by them too. I enjoyed most of them, but some more than others. This book, though, is a complete disappointment and with a very misleading title. I was led to believe that this book would shock me and reveal unknown things about the Krays, but it did neither. This book is mostly about Bronson himself, the time he has spent in various prisons and the people he has met. I have read a couple of his other books and this book is basically the same as his others. I found it hard to read and I nearly gave up on it on several occasions. I found out more about the Krays from the other Kray books than I did with this poor effort. Most of the book is not even about the twins. I agree with the other reviewer, "lady muck", this book is a complete bore and a waste of money and time. Anybody who gives this five stars has obviously not read this book. I give this only one star, because I am in a good mood and because I am feeling charitable. Utter rubbish.

1.0 out of 5 stars the krays and me 4 April 2011
Format:Hardcover
I thought this book would be good as Charles Bronson has spent so much time with The Krays, but in fact I found it boring and repetative. Charles claims the book will shock and amaze you, and is all about The Krays when in fact it's all about himself and all the other prisoners he met. What little info there is of The Krays is much of what we know already, that they were well respected, smartly dressed, only did good things unless provoked etc.etc. Charles goes on about other people blagging off The Krays name but that is what he has done, and it don't help with him constantly referring to his " other books you can buy ". If you are interested in Charles Bronson buy it. If your interested in The Krays buy a different book about The Krays.
