Product Description

Ronnie and Reggie Kray are perhaps the most notorious criminals in British history. The East End gangsters earned a reputation as two of the most unpredictable and deadly villains living and working in 1950s London. Here, broadcaster and journalist Fred Dinenage recalls how he was personally chosen by the Krays to write their story, and takes a journey back through the lives of Ronnie and Reggie to see how right he got it. Dinenage takes a tour through the old haunts of the twins, from Old Repton boxing club where they spent much of their formative years to the Carpenters Arms, scene of the murder of Jack the hat McVity at the hands of Reggie. Along the way, Dinenage recounts his memories of acting as the Krays biographer and speaks to those who were close associates of the twins for the very first time, to find out what the twins were really like. Interviews with Mad Frankie Fraser, trusted enforcer Freddie Foreman, firm member Lenny Hamilton and jewel thief Billy Frost help Dinenage to retrace Ronnie and Reggie s extraordinary lives from their childhood to their heyday and finally to the demise of one of British crime s most infamous partnerships.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK documentary ruined by visual effects 8 July 2012
By GJ
Fred Dinenage is the official biographer of the Kray twins. That's about all I learned from this 45 min documentary. There may be a story here but I found the film unwatchable due to the overuse of video editing effects throughout. Maybe the filmmakers wanted to give the film some sort of rough-edged stylization to compensate for it's lack of budget. Alas, it was all way too over the top for my taste and far too distracting and irritating. I mean, every few seconds we get really flashy, incongruous and annoying visual effects for no apparent reason other than, I guess, to show off the editor's 'skills' in the edit suite. Jittery shots, scratchy and jumpy images, extreme close-ups, you name it, it's all here, all of the time and all completely out of place. I gave up watching after 10 mins when I realised there would be no let up.
