Great performance, good sound but poor video and too short! 24 Feb 2009

Dave gets two vocals

Ray, Dave, Pete and Mick play pretty well here, though not as aggressively as seen in other video footage of the era. Perhaps trying to make a good impression on national TV in Germany?

Video is B&W and is dark and murky. Not terrible, but how could camera crews be so inept? They keep showing Ray from shoulders up, and the band from the front with such poor lighting, you can barely make out the players of the band, but worse, Mick Avory might as well have been a drum machine 'cause you can't see him at all! Too few camera angles, and showing the crowd dancing instead of Dave during his guitar solo/break on "You Really Got Me" is unforgivable. You've got to be kidding!

Another gripe is the package is very scant for annotation, and information about the show itself is so vague in a paragraph, it could have been taken from just a list of songs and the recording date. Lost a star for credibility for telling us the show ran from 1966 to Jan. 1969, yet claims the show is from November 1965. Wha?

As in all of this series so far, no matter how good the performances are, just too short to recommend strongly. Recommended mostly to Kinks collectors updating old VHS tapes, or the very curious who just simply wanted an early decent Kinks performance in their collection (like myself).

Too Short for the Money! 6 Jan 2009
By STEVE W. Murdock - Published on Amazon.com
Format:DVD
What's up with these 10 - 15 minute dvd releases? This historic footage should be compiled on a 1 or 2 dvd set and sold as a collection instead of this ripoff. I wouldn't mind paying a slightly higher price for the collected works but I simply do not have space on my storage shelf for these short releases done individually.
