CD Description
The King's Speech is a British historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper from a script by David Seidler. The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu accession to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it. The film won the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival People's Choice Award and is tipped to be the leading Oscar-nominated film of 2011. The film stars Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter.
Alexandre Desplat has composed extensively for over 100 films, in France and in Hollywood including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010), Fantastic Mr. Fox (Oscar nomination and a BAFTA nomination), The Golden Compass, Lust, Caution, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Painted Veil (Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Music, and the 2006 World Soundtrack Award), The Queen (BMI Film Music Award, 2007 World Soundtrack Award, 2007 European Film Award, and received his first Academy Award nomination), The Beat My Heart Skipped and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Oscar nomination)
The King’s Speech soundtrack was recorded at Abbey Road studios using original Royal microphones that had been stored in the EMI archives for more than 70 years. These microphones were designed for King George VI for speeches on significant occasions, the central character of this film.

Format:Audio CD
This music never detracted but only served to enhance the atmosphere of the film. Alexandre's gentle piona music is beautiful to listen to, and the choice of classicalmusic from Beethoven and Mozart were excellant choices which flowed in seamlessly.
It is the first time in a BAFTA ceremony that I was really paying attention to that important part of a film that can so easily be overlooked or spoil a film. I sat with bated breath hoping he would win, and was delighted that he did. This CD really is also wonderful relaxing and moving music to listen to even if you have not seen the film.

Format:Audio CD
After seeing the film The Kings Speech, the beautiful strains of music that filtered throughout the film, almost subconsciously into my mind, insisted that I get the CD and listen to it completely. I was not disappointed. Often film music intrudes on the scenes themselves, but Alexandre Desplat has created music that is gentle, absorbing and intriguing. Magical almost - and the perfect lullaby to send me to sleep. If you like restful music this is the CD to buy.

This cd has been well produced and is a fine collection of thought provoking, and moving music to allow your mind to wander - reminding you during each track what issue was being addressed in the film. A good film score that will stand the test of time in your cd collection, long after the film has been forgotten.
