I read this book without any expectations, i didn't even read the synopsis. I haven't read Hans Christian Andersen - The Little Mermaid, so i can't comment there :/
Going in without any expectations i was fairly surprised. It was a short read, lasted a few hours. Nyx was an interesting character being impulsive and with a rebellious streak... I didn't like the other character Lysander(was that his name?) not sure why, just rubbed me the wrong way..
I liked his Mom and Nyx Sister Thetis... The other characters are hardly protrayed in the story and that is a shame, i wished they had more interaction and more depth.
<WARNING OF POSSIBLE SPOILER>
As for the ending... I'm personally glad it wasn't 'fairy-tale' ending where everything worked out alright... Does this book end of a good or bad note.. I honestly don't know, its a matter of interpretation.. I mean she does find somewhere where she belongs in the end, but it also kind of a sad ending so im calling the ending neutral.
The ending of the story was abrupt... I wished they were more detailed ending.. I wanted read and to see Lysander come to the realization that Nyx was the one wom saved him. I wanted to him to know all that she has sacrificed, including her life at the end. I wanted to see Nyx 'father' perhaps curse Lysander for him and his children to never be safe at sea, that may sound extreme and unreasonable but he's grieving and it something i could see happening in that situation. Finally i wanted to see Lysander fall to his knee's in remorse when reality comes crashing down on him (or something)
Thats just a mini rant... I just wished the ended was expanded upon.. Overall i recommend this book.. It's free and enjoyable, you have little to lose except time.
