This book covers three main stories. One, the life and times of Norman Petty, his recording studio and his expertise as a record producer and sound engineer. Two, the history and development of his main artist, Buddy Holly and The Crickets. Three, the complexities and (sometimes illegal) workings of the music publishing business and record companies. The "financial side" of the rock "n roll industry is covered in some detail.
Although much has already been written about the life and times of Buddy Holly, this book provides new information on the trials and tribulations of Holly"s recording career. Other artists who recorded for Petty are also dealt with.
An excellent read and well illustrated, this book will be of interest to fans of original rock "n roll as well as others who would like to know more about the development of rock "n roll in the 1950"s.
A definite "must read" and highly recommended.
