Book Description

16 Aug 2012

For all fans of Michael Connelly and Dennis Lehane, The Killing House is the amazing first novel in a stunning new series by Chris Mooney, author of the popular CSI Darby McCormick thrillers. It introduces fallen angel and former profiler Malcolm Fletcher who is forced to take the law into his own hands in order to uncover the truth in his terrifying first case.

'If you want a thriller that will chill your blood, break your heart and make your pulse race, Chris Mooney is your man' Mark Billingham

Rule #1: Don't Scream

Four years ago, Theresa Herrera's ten-year-old son Rico was abducted. The police found little evidence and the case went cold. Theresa's husband has told her to move on, but she won't give up hope.

Rule #2: Don't call the police

Today a mysterious woman invaded Theresa's home and told her that Rico is alive. Theresa talks on the phone to a young man who is, without question, her son.

Rule #3: Don't run. Don't fight

The woman promises to reunite Theresa with Rico only if she will follow the rules. But it is the last rule that fills Theresa with horror . . .

Rule #4: Kill your husband and your son will live. . .

Malcolm Fletcher - a former FBI profiler and now the nation's Most Wanted fugitive - arrives in Colorado to help Theresa and her husband find their son. But his arrival coincides with a dangerous and shocking twist in the case.

Barely surviving his first encounter with a suspect, Fletcher embarks on his own secret investigation, with the police just behind him every step of the way.

Join Fletcher on his hunt and discover Chris Mooney's charismatic new series character in one of this year's most impressive new thriller series. Behind every door in The Killing House, death awaits you . . .

Chris Mooney is the author of seven previous thrillers, of which Remembering Sarah was nominated for the prestigious Edgar Award for Best Novel. The Missing, The Secret Friend and The Soul Collectors are available as Penguin paperbacks. Chris lives in Boston with his wife and son.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gruesome and gripping thriller! 18 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback
With "The Killing House" Chris Mooney brings back Malcolm Fletcher, his dark and sexy former FBI agent and now on America's Most Wanted list!
The story begins at the house of the Herrera family, whose son had been abducted four years ago. A strange person shows up inside the house and tells the mother Rico is still alive. The mother receives a call of a boy that answers the questions only her son Rico could've known. But the woman also tells her that to see her son again she has to kill her husband first.
Just as Malcolm Fletcher, send by Ali Karim who offered his services to take another look at Rico's case, arrives at the Herrera's doorstep, he senses something is wrong and things get out of control...
"The Killing House" is a supreme example of how a thriller should be written, gripping from the start, fast paced, lots of action and a very gruesome story that chills the reader to the bone.
Mooney not only knows how to write a great story, his characters are extremely well crafted and his villains are so extraordinary that John Connolly and James Lee Burke come to mind instantly.
If you prefer your thrillers dark, hard and fast paced then "The Killing House" is the book for you!
"The Killing House" is highly recommended and a definite must read for summer!! (and not only for summer!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Corruption in high places !! 28 Aug 2012
By DaveA
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first book by Chris Mooney that I've read and I found it exciting and gripping from the start. Malcolm Fletcher is dispatched by Ali Karim , a self-made multi millionaire owner of a massive security firm, to help find the missing son of Theresa Herrera. The story assumes that that the F.B.I. and large Pharmaceutical Companies are corrupt and in each others pockets and when things go wrong ,for example during drug trials and there is the possibility of litigation ,they tend to "close ranks" and get rid of all the evidence.

What this story does is highlight how difficult it is for one to get justice when confronted with such overwhelming opposition, the pace of the book is fast and you're kept on the edge of your seat at all times. The book points out that even in a Democratic society you are always being watched, and as far as the authorities are concerned "What you don't know can't hurt you".

A thoroughly good read.

1.0 out of 5 stars great if you like james bond.....I dont. 14 Oct 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
maybe its just me but i like to get to know the characters im reading about. It started off great I was connecting with threasa and the plot was good then, where was her son Rico and who had kidnapped him. Then we follow Malcome Fletcher a kind of high tech private eye with all the latest spy gear. I could not get into this book because of all the high tech spy stuff even the gory bits were just words on a page. I wanted a great character to follow but there wasnt one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable
This was good. In fact, in a different league to most thrillers. It's tough to say exactly why though. Possibly because the plot is tighter than a standard thriller. Read more
