At first it seems easy to dismiss 'The Killing Game' as just another murder mystery in the style of Patricia Cornwell or Michael Connoly. But a few chapters in you find that this Johansen novel has plenty to recommend it in its' own right. The story revolves around the central character Eve; a woman who is still trying to come to terms with the murder of her daughter many years before and the fact that the child's body was never found. She is drawn back into her worst nightmare when she is contacted by a mysterious caller, claiming to be the killer. From this point, Eve's world changes and both she, and the reader know it'll never be the same again until the mystery is solved and the murderer unmasked. It's a tense journey to that point and whilst some of the scenarios may seem unlikely, Iris Johansen's prose eases the reader through and her charm makes even the daftest situation seem almost credible. The obligatory 'twist' at the end doesn't disappoint making this a definite four star effort.

Forensic sculptor Eve Duncan comes back from John Logan's South Pacific island to help Atlanta PD Detective Joe Quinn (who is divorced now and available) try to put a face on a murdered child, she hopes might be Bonnie, the child murdered by a serial killer ten years earlier.
However she's come back only to be targeted by another serial killer who also has a red headed ten-year old in his evil sights. With the help of Joe, Sarah Patrick and her golden retriever cadaver dog, Eve chases Dom (who is after her as well) to Arizona where the book reaches it's climax.

I must say that I had a harder time accepting Eve's loss of Bonnie in this one. It's been ten years, after all, time to move on. And the two rich guys after her, I had a hard time with that as well. But I loved the dog and therefore am giving this book four stars.
