Book Description

22 May 2014

Get hooked on Heck: the maverick detective who knows no boundaries. The perfect read for fans of Stuart Macbride and Luther.

DS Mark ‘Heck’ Heckenburg is used to bloodbaths. But nothing can prepare him for this.

Heck’s most dangerous case to date is open again.

Two years ago, he put the ringleader of The Nice Guys Club – a vicious rape and murder gang – behind bars. But Heck knows that this depraved organisation stretches far beyond UK shores.

When brutal murders start happening across the country, it’s clear that the Nice Guys are at work again. Their victims are killed in cold blood, in broad daylight, and by any means necessary. And Heck knows it won’t be long before they come for him.

Brace yourself as you turn the pages of a living nightmare. Welcome to The Killing Club.

Paul Finch is a former cop and journalist, now turned full time writer. He first cut his literary teeth penning episodes of the British TV crime drama, THE BILL, and has written extensively in the field of children's animation. However, he is probably best known for his work in horrors and thrillers.

His crime debut novel, STALKERS is a no 1 ebook best seller and introduced DS Mark 'Heck' Heckenburg. This was followed last July by the sequel, SACRIFICE. The third in the series, HUNTED, will follow in February 2014. The Heck series will shortly be published in Germany, Poland, Turkey and Hungary.

To date, he's had twelve books and nearly 300 stories and novellas published on both sides of the Atlantic. His first collection, AFTER SHOCKS (Ash-Tree), won the British Fantasy Award in 2002, while he won the award again in 2007 for his novella, KID. Later in 2007, he won the International Horror Guild Award for his mid-length story, THE OLD NORTH ROAD. His short novel, CAPE WRATH (Telos), was short-listed for the Bram Stoker Award in 2002, and several other collections of his stories and novellas have been published since, all of them well received by fans and readers. His horror novel, STRONGHOLD, was published by Abaddon Books in 2010, along with his novelette, SPECIAL POWERS, which forms part of Stephen Jones's masterly mosaic horror, ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE (Robinson). Christmas 2010 will see the launch of another short novel by Finch, the festive terror tale, SPARROWHAWK (Pendragon). He has also written three DOCTOR WHO audio dramas for Big Finish - LEVIATHAN and SENTINELS OF THE NEW DAWN, HEXAGORA and a DR WHO novel for BBC Books, HUNTER'S MOON.

Finch is no stranger to film either, having written scripts for several horror movies. One of these, THE DEVIL'S ROCK, was released in 2011, while his short story THE BELFRIES, is shorty due to be adapted by Hollywood. A film adaptation of his novel STRONGHOLD is now in development.

Wearing an editor's hat, Paul is also responsible for the TERROR TALES series, a collection of ghost and horror anthologies exploring the folklore, history and geography of the various regions of Britain.

Paul Finch lives in Lancashire, UK, with his wife Cathy and his children, Eleanor and Harry.

Review

Praise for STALKERS:

“[Stalkers] is ace. Really terrific, compulsive stuff which was given top marks…definitely a talent to watch.” (The Bookseller: One to Watch)

“Stalkers is a very dark premise… it'll have you by the throat until you get to the end.” (Books and Writers)

Praise for SACRIFICE:

“Avon’s big star…part edge-of-the-seat, part hide-behind-the-sofa!” (The Bookseller)
