Product Description

Product Description

Kevin Lewis grew up on a council estate in South London. Beaten and starved by his parents, ignored by the social services and bullied at school, he was offered a chance to escape this nightmare world and was put into care. Despite his best efforts to make things work out, his life spiralled out of control. At the age of 17 he became caught up in the criminal underworld of London, where he was known as 'The Kid'. From the violent anger he suffered at the hands of his mother and father, to the continuous torments at school; from the way in which he coped with rejection from people he trusted, to suffering from bulimia and a wish to take his own life, Kevin succeeded in making a better life for himself. This is his story ..

The Kid, Kevin Lewis 19 Jun 2003
Format:Hardcover
I was waiting with baited breath the arrival of this book for my own very personal reasons. It has been written expertly and comes from the heart. It is distressing and very sad in a lot of chapters, but uplifting and determined in others, I cried alot of tears in the first half, but celebrated with Kevin in the 2nd half through his mishaps and adventures as he takes you through his very traumatic and inspiring first 32 years! I would reccomend this to anyone who thinks that as a child they were hard done by, or a teenager that is going through a really rough time. Its a book that makes you say YES in a very loud voice when you read the final chapter!! Excellent *********

The Kid 31 July 2003
Format:Hardcover
I am not a great book reader, but after hearing a radio program that mentioned this book, I felt I had to read it. I found the book, although it covers a taboo subject a deeply riveting and moving account of something that i am glad i did not have to endure myself. But I am glad to read that the author seems to have been strong enough to get through his ordeal.
Every parent to be and parent already should read this as it will show how a child picks up on the smallest detail and stores it for their development as a human. In the book, the author (Kevin) remembers smells and emotions of his childhood even now when he is a parent himself. It has awoken thoughts of my own childhood and what smells and emotions mean to me. Gladly for me most of my memories are good ones, so i can only try to understand how strong the young Kevin was. I hope Kevin is at ease with his life now. A MUST READ BOOK.

This book was brilliant. It was extremely sad and I cried nearly all the way through it. I just dont know how a tiny boy survived the torture he was put through. Unfed and undernourished all through his childhood, yet he survived the extreme unnecessary punishement from the evil hands of his mother. At one point the social services finally took him away from his family and sent him to a childrens home, where he experienced a birthday, something he had never done and also presents and a party, which he had never before experienced. Unfortunately though, this short and happy time ended and he was put back in the so called care of his family. If he had continued at childrens homes, the pain he feels today would be halved. Unfortunately his brothers also suffered at the hands of his mother, but this was not mentioned much in the book. Anyway if it was, it would have been too much for me to take in. One abused child is enough!!

Im so happy now that he has survived what he was put through, through no fault of his own ever and that hopefully he is a happy and healthy man to this day. I wish him only the best always. Once thing I cannot understand is why on earth did he invite his mother to his wedding, if that was me, I would have killed her, a nice long and painful death, what she deserves!!

The Kid: A True Story
Wow, a very disturbing read, yet the story had to be told. Hard to believe that such abuse still exists in our modern day society.
