I heard about this book in The Children's Writer's and Artist's Yearbook. I was interested to find out that John Howard had self published it, having considering doing this for my book. I understood how difficult it must be to get your book known if you self publish it, so was keen to buy a copy, in the hope of helping to spread the word about how good this book is, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be recommending it to my friends.
On hearing the plot, and being told that if you love Harry Potter (which I do), then this is the book to read, I was very keen to read it. I was fairly intrigued by the first few chapters, but I'm afraid to say that the more I read, the less I enjoyed it.
One of the great things about Harry Potter, is that although it's about magic, it's also about real life. People die and Harry looses the people closest to him. In this book, at first when Millie got into trouble, I was genuinely concerned that she'd escape alive, but after she managed to escape every ordeal practically unharmed (usually by using her new power she didn't know she had!), by the end when she got into trouble, I stopped caring, because I knew she'd survive!
Overall, very disappointing!
