Format:Audio CD
This is not a typical Hendrix covers album: there are no drums, nor is it a 'rock' album.
What you get is a set of marvellous violin based explorations of Jimi's music, taking the songs and Hendrix' guitar solos as a starting point for some stunning playing and musical thinking by Nigel Kennedy, a string quartet and acoustic guitar.
It's a matter of record (no pun) that Hendrix listened to all types of music and he loved to jam and improvise, and from the sound of this music, so does Nigel Kennedy.
Third Stone from the Sun and Fire are standouts but there's not a dud track on the album.
The sound of the CD is very close and a bit 'edgy' but this suits the music.
HIghly recommemded for Hendrix and Kennedy fans, and for classical music listeners with an open mind.

Jimi would have loved this! Nigel Kennedy has once again shown how broad his taste and love of music stretch. Wonderful interpretations of Hendrix classics - you are taken away to a place of utter brilliance and artistic virtuosity - I can't recommend this enough!

What Jimi Hendrix did on the guitar has been translated by Nigel Kennedy to the violin.Its not music which you'd hear in the supermarket-unlike the Vivaldi stuff- but it works well.
